Yup - that was our thinking too. Our rising 7th would have loved to do this in person- or even online last summer, but after a full year behind the screen, we can't commit to that for the summer, too. Mental health is more important.

+1. we spent a s$it summer in DC last year. parents working from home and kids at home all day, doing math on Khan academy or straight playing on tablets. between our work and the heath outside, not much room for fun. I was already on the fence about the accelerated math program if it was in person, but online no way in hell. hopefully kids will get vaccinated soon so we can spend weeks with family (I work remotely and kids spend all day outside with cousins). they got used to live in front of a screen and this has to stop quickly

As affirmed by CDC. - all of the hygiene theater and spacing has been nonsense and a waste of time. The control feals that are DCPS are attempting to legitimize past misguided stupidity.
All kids should be in school all of the time at this point. Know that decisions not to have that happen are all about appeasing crazy Covid parents and lazy teachers.

I agree with the first bit. As for the second, I think it’s more covid theater. It’s more about convincing other families that it’s safe to come back.

And we were told explicitly by admin to allow phones on Wednesdays.

Do you realize how many sites are blocked in the building? Many children are legitimately doing work on their phones with their own data that they cannot access on Dcps wifi. I don’t agree that other teachers have used these sites, and none of the work for my class is blocked, but I’m not going to stop children from doing work in their other subjects.
