But to ask kids who have been sitting in front of a screen for a full academic year to spend a full month of their summer doing the same is not reasonable. Especially after a year of receiving only 2/5 of the regular instructional time in the previous math course. What are they building on?
My son did SMAC online last summer and actually quite enjoyed it.
Any other summer, virtual wouldn’t be a problem. After a full year in front of a screen where summer outside is the biggest thing to look forward to? It’s a bit different.
Yup - that was our thinking too. Our rising 7th would have loved to do this in person- or even online last summer, but after a full year behind the screen, we can't commit to that for the summer, too. Mental health is more important.
+1 dCps needs to read the room.
+1. we spent a s$it summer in DC last year. parents working from home and kids at home all day, doing math on Khan academy or straight playing on tablets. between our work and the heath outside, not much room for fun. I was already on the fence about the accelerated math program if it was in person, but online no way in hell. hopefully kids will get vaccinated soon so we can spend weeks with family (I work remotely and kids spend all day outside with cousins). they got used to live in front of a screen and this has to stop quickly
