Poster above...i think it is much harder to pin down a wasp aesthetic today. There is much more diversity...see town and country magazine. It seems to ooze waspdom but some of the older generation of wasps might disagree and say it is too pretentious. I have no idea.

I think the closest other common archetype is "new england yankee" at least for the older preps, like the older Bush's or kennedy's: Thrift, humility, stoicism, prudence, charity and some version of a private faith. Clothing used to be valued for quality, classic design, some modesty and practicality I think a lot of it was a carryover from the Puritans, at least for the wasps we are talking about here....bill clinton and jimmy carter were wasps too, but that's not what we are talking about right? We are talking about a northeastern brand of wasp but the values it had were more linked to the grandparents of most of the readers here. I second the linger list for a modern view of wasp. Modern waspdom includes greater diversity in all areas, clothes, hsir, race,

Martha was raised Polish Catholic. She cultivated a wasp lifestyle as part of her brand and it matched her interests too, not all phony. Her husband's family, Andy Stewart's had money (and may have been wasps) but lost most of it, per their daughter Alexis' account.

Those may be her roots but the current farmland and lifestyle is more connected and rooted in her husband's family history. She has been open about that. There were also family legal issues and i think her being let go by barney's (?) that may have had a role in the move.
