One thing I loved about this election cycle is the emergence of new talent: Buttigieg, Abrams, Whitmer are stars.
I doubt Whitmer will leave the governorship for a cabinet position right now, but if she did want to she could step down giving Gilchrist incumbency advantage for 2022. Biden loves her.
Abrams probably wants to continue her voting initiative then run for governor in 2022. She's certainly laid the groundwork!
Buttigieg does seem the most likely to join Biden's cabinet. I agree UN Ambassador is a high profile gig that fits his talents and he has the intelligence to grow into it quickly.

President Obama and Michelle Obama are great figures, with relationships along the globe. But they are retired, there is no way either would be Secretary of State. It will likely be Chris Coons or Tony Blinken. I prefer Chris Murphy though (for his views on Yemen).

Richmond is absolutely in the running for Chief of Staff. There will plenty of other staff positions for Klain, starting with being the COVID czar.
Biden should not be afraid to think big with Secretary of State. He is going to be 78 and needs to have experienced people around him. There is no one better than an Obama to help rebuild global relationships. Both are still relatively young and not retired at all. Coons is still needed as a Biden ally in the Senate and Murphy can wait.
Mayor Pete has a brilliant mind. He will not be bored with any cabinet position, and he needs experience. He should have at least two cabinet roles in the first term.
What has Doug Jones done to deserve a cabinet spot? Do we really need another former senator from Alabama in that role?

Mayor Pete will end up POTUS, or making a good run at some point. He has Obama energy.
But he's also the kind of guy who does a zillion sidequests before the first boss fight. He'll be overqualified so that he can carry it across the line. The first shot was a long one, but it got him on the national stage, and there is one really good way to overcome the bias against LGBTQ people -- you put them in a position of responsibility and let them do their jobs. Nothing speaks like competence. Who someone loves becomes not really relevant when they are fixing problems for you.
He will run again, though. He'll have even more chops then., after demonstrating that competence very visibly.

I agree with a lot of this, exceot for Buttigieg. I think he belongs in the White House as a strategic advisor. He has many good ideas and also is a great communicator. A White House job will give him unrestricted access and we also be in front of cameras often.

There should be something for Vindman and George Conway should get the DoJ litigation job he wanted from Trump. That should be enough Republican representation with the caveat that there should be something big for retiring GOP Senator Pat Toomey if only one of the GA senate races goes to a Democrat. The governor of PA would appoint Toomey's replacement and turn the Senate Blue.
