At first dude will load on it to the point of throw up but soon he will realize that the food is there and no reason to stress.. Between my family , my friends and extended family and all my life of cats not one cat was overweight and neither one of them was ever feed scheduled. Cats are hugely stressed if they are feed on schedule or have to beg for food and that is why they load and get overweight.

This leads to obesity. Just like if you had food given once a day you would eat it weather you would be really hungry or not because your survival instinct kicks in.
Self feeding cat is a happy, never stressed and relaxed animal who never meows at you to feed him.

I never once new a cat who comes anywhere near an orange, this dude loves it and reports immediately when I eat one, so I always give pieces. This time I really forgot and he was really disappointed. He gave me a long look with his beautiful big gentle eyes. He got some papaya instead, we made peace.
