Your idea is stupid bc it will lead to packed stores or people not being allowed to get food.

It was just an example that we ought to do something to limit exposure. Nobody needs that many grocery stores open all the time. I would be in favor of masks everywhere as the main solution. But, we effed it up so much that we might need another lockdown just to be able to go back to tracing.

Re: China —The number of dead Americans is a statistical error if you have 2 billion people.

I don’t care about being a superpower. I do care about my family and other loved ones not dying just so that billionaires can profit from toxic capitalism.

Well since you’re already in China, I’m glad you like it. Make sure your block captain doesn’t see you doing anything suspicious...you don’t want to end up in prison camp.

I wasn't implying that your idea to open grocery stores was undemocratic. But, really? You can't make the connection that we voluntarily and systematically are poisoning ourselves to death? And yet, the COVID bogey man is the thing to be afraid of because people are *gasp* dying?

Yes, this virus is contagious, and deadly.

But the amount of hand waving and calling for shut downs - when we regularly choose to poison our bodies because it tastes good - renders that level of alarm rather moot.

I think that is what the other PP was getting at.

Yes but we need 6 weeks.

I also would support. And I think that we could fix the grocery store situation with a combination of a government-provided household subsistence pack delivery every week. It could be tailored to fit the number of people in the household and any dietary restrictions. For example, my family of four has two teens who need a lot of calcium, but one of which is lactose intolerant. We could check a box that selected Lactaid milk or more calcium rich veggies. A family that eats halal or kosher could select vegetarian foods that would not violate their religious restrictions. Households that want to opt out of the weekly delivery could be given a one-time gift card that would allow them to shop for themselves during the week before lockdown begins. At 11:59 pm the day before the lockdown, the funds revert to the government and if families run out, they can apply online for a generic subsistence box.

Put police of every corner too. Only then will morons start wearing masks. This pandemic so easy to crush, the fact that we refuse to do so due to our own stupidity is telling, Once people can't leave the house for 2 weeks, they will accept masks. But, of course that means having POTUS that will enforce masks in the whole country. So, why talk about things that are impossible?

You really like authoritarianism don’t you?

No, I don't. I dislike it. But, we are killing people. Fact is, stupid people need dictatorships in situations like this. Stupidity kills. We are stupid. Every country is ruled by force, democracy just calls it choosing to have rules and the police to enforce it. How are we to open schools, when people can't even wear masks? What we are seeing is that people think science is fake, virus is fake, and are killing people with their actions. Is that liberty to you?

huh? Have you not read the news about the COVID death rate?

If you REALLY cared about people dying, you would outlaw junk food, fast food restaurants and have mandatory exercise sessions every day. COVID is a small blip in terms of death. You are simply drinking the media koolaid and don't know any better.

OMG - THANK YOU.

Finally, a voice of reason.

We are a nation of sick and diseased people but, but... You can't take away my diet coke and In n Out!!!

+1 even Italy and Wuhan allowed grocery stores to stay open. I would support grocery delivery services being reserved only for the elderly and high risk folks.

That’s idiotic. Grocery store should have as much curbside and delivery as possible. Decreases the number of people in the public in the store and then the workers who are doing the shopping should be given adequate PPE. Much safer for both people consuming the groceries and the workers in the grocery store.
