Sure, UMD engineering and CS are strong. But to say UVA is nonexistent demonstrates some serious ignorance. But to be expected from insecure UMD boosters.

Don't worry, UMD is a fine, big state school with a few strong programs. UVA is an elite well-rounded school with many strong programs.

UMCP isn’t just close, it also takes a big share of your kid’s public high school graduating class. I don’t know about your kids, but mine wanted to get away from the high school scene.

Regardless, one of my kids is there for computer science and now loves it. He got into other schools with merit aid that essentially eliminated the cost difference with UMD. I let him choose, and he finally decided that UMD has the best comp sci program among the schools that accepted him, so he chose UMCP.
