Stupid autocorrect:

I must have typed it backward. They won one, and were runner up in the second. Yes, I think they won the U17 and were second place in neither. But I was being a bit tongue in cheek. If you really think we need to move there, then you concede the US has nowhere in the entire country that teaches quality soccer.

I say they were the best there, but after looking at it, they didn't play all of our best. They didn't play a single DA team.

If we do concede the best, then the US wasn't in the top 4 of either the U17 or U20. So either those results mean something, along with Barca winning, so we have a problem (except for those who don't care if the WNT ever wins another WWC title).

I sure do. My DD wishes she could play for a club that would teach her the play like that.

She can—you should start looking for a villa near Barcelona, Spain now. The housing market may slow next year, so the sooner you put yours on the market, the better, to maximize your value.

You mean nowhere in the US can we teach that high a level of soccer? That does not bode well for the future.

Given the performance of all the other euro teams, it seems like the best bet is this one Spanish team at the moment. Perhaps they are just a really good team that plays well with one another, an outlier. This can happen in any sport, and gender, any age. I mean, after all, we are talking about one performance in one tournament and drawing conclusions in this thread. With what we have to work with, the best bet at this time to play exactly as this team played in this game/tournament is to try to make this team. Best of luck to interested parties.

I am not ready to throw in the towel so easily. But if what you say is true, then the fact that Spain won the U20 women's World Cup and was runner up for the U17 one was no accident. It was a sign of things to come. If we all accept what you are saying is true.

I say they didn't play FC Dallas, SoCal Blues, Real Colorado and others. It would be a shame to think nowhere in the US is there a high level club that makes technical and tactical work the top means of play.

Umm. You must have misread the message. It was simply that this team shined in this group and that the individual who wants their DD to play exactly like that team needs to move to Spain and try to make that team. Could others challenge this team, sure, but how can we possibly know the result until other teams play this one?

The bigger point you apparently missed is that drawing conclusions from this event, even combined with the u20 result, is silly.

DP. I tried to watch the actual games rather than just relay on the scores because scorelines don't always reflect actual level of play. I couldn't find all of them, and some were mixed in with the boys' games in 8 hours of footage.

Man City's performance was definitely lackluster. They were clearly behind all the other teams.

Atletico Madrid though was about the same as the rest. They lost by 1 the first day. They won the second day over Concorde Fire (#1 of the SE ECNL conference). They tied the 3rd day against one of the ECNL all stars teams and the ICC team won in PKs. Most of the teams were similar to each other. Athletic Madrid, the ICC teams, and PDA were all similar in quality. Some slightly better, and some slightly worse, but overall, they were similar in their ability to hold possession, the technical level, and so on.

I couldn't find any PSG games, but given they barely won 1 and lost solidly other two, I'll say they didn't perform well.

I didn't see a team as good as the Barca team over all. It was clearly the most technical team, the best at possession and tactics, and they were good at ball winning and defending without it being solely a muscle contest (like in some games, a player often simply pushed another player off the ball. I couldn't find the Atletico Madrid versus Concorde Fire game, so i don't know how good either team did or didn't look against each other.

I didn't realize it at first but should have. All the American teams are ECNL or ECNL all star teams. It's because of the timing. The DA teams were in the middle of their winter showcase. So while the Barca team was the best team there, it didn't play all the top teams in America. It played top ECNL teams and players. It'd be more interesting if it played for example FC Dallas or a DA all star team. Would the outcome be the same?

To wish for that openly risks being ridiculed and accused of being a propagandist. We just won the last World Cup so there is no reason to change how we play ever.

Actually, that just pokes a hole in the PDA defender regarding the PDA/Barca game was not a "Apples to Apples" matchup.

PSG, Atletica Madrid and Man City all have resources that PDA doesn't. PDA was not fighting above their weight class, they were just outclassed.

It pokes holes in both arguments if anything. This thread is a lot of chest beating without much meat.
