+1 go live in WV, OP. You'll love it. It's got your kind of people.

WV is actually a really nice place to live. Lots of fed employees live in JeffCo and commute on the MARC Brunswick line. Thousands of them.

Then OP should definitely go there, no?

This 'love it or leave attitude' isn't useful when a county needs to retain as many tax paying residents as possible in order to maintain the level of services some people have come to expect? This boundary study is sure to leave taxpayers upside down on their mortgages. Such a short-sighted move will require taxes to be raised elsewhere. Growth in MoCo is stagnant. We need to hold proper discussion.

Montgomery County is one of the richest counties in the nation. I don't think we have to worry about taxpayers leaving. If anything, growth is what's driving people away.

Do you think that it will remain one of the richest counties? Importing large numbers of poor immigrants will not maintain the status quo. You may want to import the poverty, but at least admit that it will change the tax base. Especially when many of these immigrants work for cash only.

Immigrants work hard. They take care of people's children, clean their homes, cut their lawns, pave the road, bus the dishes off the tables in restaurants, renovate their homes, and on and on and on. Rich people need immigrants, now and forever. We're lucky that doing these gross jobs, for cash under the table, is a step up from their own countries otherwise wealthy people wouldn't be able to make use of them. It's win-win.

Yep. This is why there is such a push for welcoming illegal immigration. Why pay more for your lawn service when someone will do it for dirt cheap? Why bother with OSHA regulations if you’re a contractor? Easier to hire illegal immigrants who won’t report violations anyway.

It pays big time for the wealthy to embrace illegal immigration because they are the ones benefiting from it.

As long as that is the case, nobody has much incentive to fix the illegal immigration problem.

You could always get cheap foreign labor using H2Bs like Trump does for his resorts. It's not like those visa holders will report OSHA violations, and some overstay their visas to become illegal immigrants.

Yes. That works also. It’s a fantastic system that wealthy business owners have been exploiting for decades to get cheap labor. All while screwing the middle class worker.

Those are not middle class jobs. I wouldn't want them and I don't want my kids growing up to clean toilets in office buildings or cut grass or bus dishes for a living either, even if we can pretend they would pay more if illegal immigrants weren't doing them. No one is ever going to pay much to bus dishes or clean the toilets. They're just not. Again, we're lucky that's a step up for some in this world and we're also lucky our own kids don't have jobs like that lined up for them when they grow up. Win-win.

They used to be middle class jobs. At least ‘working class’. And they could be if they paid more.

You sound like an elitist liberal snob. I worked restaurant jobs when I was younger and DH cut lawns. I have no problem with my kids doing them either.

DP. Bussing tables, scrubbing toilets, etc. were never MC jobs. They were always done by the poor (those grabbing for the first rung up and those who hit rock bottom). Many women in my family did those jobs to feed their kids and keep a roof overhead. I don’t think anyone doing that work is getting over no matter how they got to the US.

Tough jobs and the people who do them need to be paid more. How can you argue that it is better to have illegal immigrants do these jobs for less money than it is to pay more for the work?

Because it's still better for them to do these low paying crap jobs here than it would be to stay in their home country. See that's how it works.

Then advocate to bring them here LEGALLY. This is not that hard. If there really is a need, advocate for immigration reform. But, don't advocate to have more people break the law.

You know that the reason why Trump increased H2B visas by 15K in his first few months in office was because he said you couldn't find good [low skilled] help. So, either Trump was lying or there really is a dearth of Americans willing to work these low skilled jobs for which people like Trump pay very little for. Which do you think is true?

Plus who wants to work in a slaughter house, for any amount of money? We should be thanking God we have people willing to do this kind of thing and spare the rest of us "legals" from doing those jobs. Now they're being deported -- who will do these horrifyingly disgusting jobs? Americans?

? You are living a few decades ago. Times have changed, as it should. Middle class jobs now include more white collar office type jobs.

You would be ok with your kid mowing the lawn as a 40 year old? I wouldn't, and my parents both worked in factories in the 70s.

Tell me which R pays a lot for those "middle class" jobs that you are talking about.

Uh, yeah, but we were talking about adults doing these jobs not teenagers. I said I didn't want my kids to do those jobs WHEN THEY GROW UP. I doubt you would want your kid to clean toilets over the summer for money. Seriously doubt that. And even if it paid a working wage or a middle class wage, I would not want to clean toilets or have my children grow up to clean toilets for a living.

And I am not an elitist snob, whatever that means. I was a waitress for years. But I was never a busboy, one of the hardest jobs I have ever seen a man do, until I saw men carrying demolition debris in buckets on their shoulders out to the curb, or paving the road in 95 degree humid weather, etc.. Were you a busboy when you were young, PP? Was your DH? I doubt it. Snobs.

Leftism is FAILING.

If Montgomery County were a standalone and not adjacent to other prosperous jurisdictions it would go the way of Venezuela. I am not exaggerating.
Venezuela was once a wealthy country with natural resources and a well-educated population.
After two decades of Bolivarism/Bolivarian Revolution, they have a grossly managed economy run by egotistical dictators and a starving population.

This is literally what has happened to Montgomery County under Elrichism.

You are an idiot.

Win-win.

"As long as [it keeps working for everyone involved" nobody has much incentive to fix the illegal immigration problem."

Correct. It's working so why fix it?

Yes, it's called starting from the bottom and working your way up.

No, it’s called breaking the law.

Illegal immigration is by definition illegal.
