Catholic politicians that aggressively promote abortion and gay marriage should be ex-communicated. I don't understand why the Church hasn't been more assertive about this issue.

Well, then nobody should get communion. Are you divorced? Practice birth control? Had sex before marriage? Lived with your spouse before marriage? If you have done all the above than you too should be denied.

So, if you molest children than you are allowed communion?

This is way I do not believe in religion.

It's about confession and repentence. You are right that nobody should get communion -- unless they go to confession with clear repetence for their sins. It's a universal rule that applies to all Catholics.

Honestly, I think these issues arise because priests are too lax with communion. They should announce at the beginning of mass that folks should not come for communion if they have not been to confession in the last year or have an unconfessed mortal sin.
