I went to an Ivy, saw and partook in plenty of partying, and witnessed acts of public exposure - including male and female students who ran naked around a college courtyard in the school’s annual “nude Winter Olympics” that followed the first snowfall.

I did not in four years witness men thrusting their genitals in women’s faces or having their dicks pushed by buddies into women’s faces or hands. Maybe I missed out, but I consider myself lucky to been spared those sights.

The reason BK’s shenanigans resonate is that they continue to speak to the inequality that pervades our society. Had a black teenager decided to show up on the New Haven green some evening and expose himself, he would have been arrested. Had Deborah Ramirez decided to let loose and dance with her top off at her Yale residential college, she would have been slut-shamed for months, if not years. But Kavanaugh could basically do whatever he wanted, whenever he wanted, as a young adult, secure in the knowledge that he would face no consequences. And, in fact, he was right - as we’ve seen an entire political party grease his wheels for decades.

Had he been even slightly candid or contrite, or attempt to place his earlier behavior in the context of growing up at an earlier time - post-Animal House and Porky’s but pre-American Pie - he might at least seem more human or equipped to recognize the mistakes that others also make. But he has only stonewalled, so ultimately he stands for absolutely nothing other than white male privilege. That’s what he rode to power and if dismantling it means attacking him and continuing to look for opportunities to unseat him from the Supreme Court, so much the better.

This. Exactly exactly this.

We would be talking about this differently if he'd talked about it differently. If he'd said something like: The culture was different then, and I took part, and it was wrong, and I was wrong, and I am sorry. And now that I have daughters [editor's note: I hate how men only see the light when they have daughters but whatever] I can see how wrong it was, and that's why I am committed to creating a culture where women don't have to face what was considered normal then.

But he didn't. He lied. He shouted and threw a temper tantrum during his job interview. He seemed like a spoiled little boy who wasn't getting the candy he thought he deserved. He was protected by the worst kind of old boy's club. Fck that guy and eveyone who shielded him from having to face any consequences from what we all know he did. Him being a Supreme Court justice now is a travesty.

Sure you would.

As was said before - Gorsuch didn't get any of this.

Yep. Bought and paid for. He will take his marching orders and perform them exactly as told.

Brett Kavanaugh was confirmed on the basis that, as the chairman of the Judiciary Committee Senator Chuck Grassley put it, there was "no corroboration of the allegations made by Dr. Ford or Ms. Ramirez.”

There was no real investigation. The whole thing was a rammed through whitewash.

Go revisit that thread. It will feel familiar. There is literally no scumbag these people won't defend so long as he's a white guy who wants to ban abortion.

Agreed.

It’s about the deep seated hated of women and greed. End of.

So...small consolation, I suppose, since the mission was unaccomplished?

It's no consolation at all. This whole thing is a travesty committed by Moscow Mitch and Little Donnie Small Hands.

No, this whole story is evidence that we not allow the well-funded and well-organized groups who are opposed to the nominee of a Republican president to derail the nomination of a highly qualified and exemplary candidate.
We have let it happen before. No more. We learned our lesson.

Gorsuch did not have this problem because he was highly qualified and exemplary.

Yes, exactly this - and you know this is true because Gorsuch has the seat that was stolen from Merrick Garland, so politically we are even more fcking pissed about him being appointed. But you cannot deny that he was qualified in terms of background and moral fitness, and how he conducted himself during the hearings - even if you hate his jurisprudence and how he got to the court, as I do.

The fact that Bart O'Beer got there with so many questions about his background - that just shows you how little Republicans care about or respect the court and the American people, not to mention WOMEN. It's not for nothing that women are abandoning that party.

This.
“Trump and the GOP could have put a reliable conservative on the SCOTUS without undermining the Court’s legitimacy or telling victims of sexual assault that their words are meaningless. They chose this fight.”

This is forensic stuff that has nothing to do with "he said, she said"

The GOP doesn't care about rules or democracy, and the Court is illegitimate to decide anything having to do with Trump or the Administration.

I am never voting for another Republican again after this travesty. There was obviously something shady going on with his finances, and plenty of other conservatives who could have been nominated to the Supreme Court.

In any case the media hardly covers nominations.

Equating it with scotus is nonsense.

It's not equating it with scotus to point out that these accusations of terrible behavior that could impact his ability to serve as a judge weren't brought up to public scrutiny before.

If they had, those pushing for his confirmation would have smeared the accusers as stalkers for even knowing he was under consideration.
