I just found this thread! My tribe!!

I was waiting for my sister to finish trying on clothes a few weeks ago and got to talking to a Target employee who was not happy with corporate. I used to work at Target, a million years ago and the way labor was structured was like a classic retail store - there were stocking teams, truck unloading, etc., and at the end of the day we all worked to help face aisles and put away reshop (attention clueless clods who decide they don’t want that ice cream anymore and put it on top of shirts - don’t do that. Hand it to the cashier when you leave).

Target has gotten rid of the backroom staff entirely so it’s on everybody to unload the truck and then sort through their boxes, put it on the flor and help customers. Target has saved money by firing necessary staff and sucking up our experience there. Much of this started under their current CEO, Brian Walmart or whatever his name is.

They’ve completely effed the shopping experience. I haven’t spent a dollar at my local renovated Target in four months as it’s just too ugly and too hard to shop. I call it Gotham Target and I avoid its stupidity at all costs. It’s as though they didn’t hire designers or architects at all.

Plus, the shoe section is only about three half-aisles and they are pushed VERRRY close together, so you and another customer cannot be looking at the same time. And if you want to bring your cart down the aisle? Forget it. Not only is it too narrow, but you cart get caught in all the shoes left on the floor.

Also, my daughter and I were there the other day at like 9 am. It looked like they were stocking EVERY aisle, and there was even a loud vacuumer vacuuming. Since when did they not clean up and restock IN THE NIGHTTIME?

Maybe a Freudian slip? Correction in all caps: "It looks like cheapy, plastic shoes like you'd find at KMART, but they are all priced $34.99."

Last year I found some cute shoes at Kmart

Well then they have MORE shoes in the apparel sections. I spent about 30 minutes in the actual shoe section the other day looking (they were BOGO 50% off) for a specific sandal in my size to go with another shoe I liked. Couldn't find it so I put both back since I didn't like any others and wanted to get 2 pairs for the deal. Then, walking through the women's clothes, I find the original sandal I wanted and had to walk all the way back over to the shoe section only to now not find the OTHER pair I wanted. Spent all my precious kid-free Target time looking for shoes all over the place! Same thing in the men's section.

JUST PUT THE SHOES WITH ALL THE SHOES! Same goes for jewelry, bags, sunglasses, etc!

I just hate the rise of self-checkout. We try to shop off-hours, but not when it's empty, and there is rarely an actual cashier. I always have to request one and wait. I don't work there. I'm not scanning my own items.

I was in there today, and shocked. I rarely look at the women’s clothes. I always assume junky and unattractive. But today I was perusing, their swim suits, cute pool/beach bags, women’s athletic and casual wear, PJs, bras and undies, cute tops. Nice muted colors.

You must go to a Target that hasn't been renovated (read: devastated) yet.

Bar the doors when the renovators come!!

I have concluded that the layout was designed by AI rather than humans. The AI used some random algorithm to decide where to locate things. For example maybe it decided that all cylindrical objects should be in the same location. Look! We have chapstick, flashlights and tampons over here! Because you never know!!

LOL so very true

You must not own any Target stock.
And you apparently need a life - reading about something you don’t care about and then commenting.
Pretty dumb.

Target is trying to become the new Kmart.

I was in the Reston one. It continues to go from bad to worse. Even my 11yo daughter said, "What's up with these displays?" brcause the from Easter section had like 2-4 of each thing they were trying to display (cookie mixes, jelly beans, etc.) and sooooo much white space. Then, we were in the grocery area, and it looked like a hungry horde of refugees had come through Giant before a Washington area snow storm: picked over, empty shoes. When we had to look for egg dying kits, I said, "Forget it, I have had enough of Target. Let's pay and then go pick it up at Walgreen's."

Read up, Target: your former customers cannot stand your new shopping "experience."

Here is another thing: I noticed the customer service desk is all cockamamie and does not have the simple bins for them to toss retuned things for various departments. Thy just have huge, dupisshelved carts foul of crap, just like TJ Maxx or K Mart or Marshalls. It is like their executives decided to study failed business models and copy them. I do not get it!
