Given the scores, poor minorities at many schools are thriving. That's because of the teachers.

What homework? A math worksheet and spelling tests twice a month aren't sufficient homework.

The curriculum doesn't include vocabulary or grammar. Your suggestion is for parents to supplement; my suggestion is to build core educational elements into the school day. I suspect schools that are excelling do that on top of the nonsense curriculum.

If OT is excelling, it's precisely because of the teachers and educational enrichment happening at school. Look at the demographics. My theory is the best teachers proactively seek out schools where they can make a difference. Draw your own conclusions about who lobbies to land an easier job in less diverse schools.

I know teachers at OT. My kids go to a far less diverse school that barely scored a 4. Native born white kids in UMC homes shouldn't struggle with English. The curriculum stinks, and the schools should be supplementing instead of having kids do busy work when the teacher is cycling through math and reading groups. Have the kids grouped by ability to switch classrooms for math and reading. That shaves off time that can easily be dedicated to vocab and grammar....like private schools do.

MCPS has expanded it by adding the new special classes in the middle schools. Accelerated programming is now available at home schools!

Has anyone gone through the trouble to list the W schools and percentages? I am too lazy to go through and look at each one, nor do I feel like looking through this entire thread. Thanks!
