Women here consider an Ann Taylor dress, kate spade watch and purse and Tory Burch flats with a balayage hair in loose waves the epitome of being stylish.
Like ewww? For the most educated and wellnoff part of the country why is everyone here southern sorority girl??
Well, I know a few local non-career women with rich husbands made fashion their full time job. Here is one with Instagram fame. But does't every city have these?

Can you afford $50K shopping trip to Paris/London every season? Can you fit into these cloth even if you could afford them? Do you have time every day to apply make up and do your hair for 2 hours before you get out of the house?
Most of the DC professional women don't have the resource and time, and they have interesting jobs and families to take care of.
Exhibit A.
Dropping $50K in Paris and London/spending 2 hours on hair and makeup is your only option if you want to look nice/marginally fashionable.
Shades of grey, people.

P.S. She is not allowed to wear heels less than 4 inches even in the house.

Find me super fashion forward HOARDES of working women in another city please. Sure, the fashion magazines and art careers are most likely more fashion forward. Outside of those, show me a city where office drones dress fashion forward. I'll wait.
Tokyo, Copenhagen
Let's try an American city. My argument is that this isn't a DC thing. It's an American thing.
I agree, although there are certain spots where women are riskier with fashion...cities on the west coast, LA, SF, Portland, Seattle..
There are cities where women are not particularly risky at all, but very put together and stylish, Dallas, Atlanta, and other southern cities both big and small...
But you are right. Most American women are just not as stylish as our counterparts from cities across the world. We don't have the money or the time and our culture does reward it

Anonymous wrote:IDGAF, OP, that's why. And honestly, why do you? When I moved here almost 30 years ago for college I was surprised at the dowdiness of Washington women. That was still the age of the power suit and wearing socks and sneakers on Metro. You changed into your heels at work. And now, after all this time, I just feel like who cares? This is DC, you know there's always gonna be someone in the room who looks worse than you. It's oddly comforting. And frankly, if everyone here was chic and wearing couture, you'd have no one to look down on, OP.
