Already happening, the rhetoric and f ups are enough.

It all sounds nice until people start moving to Howard County and Northern Virginia and property values drop and then goes the tax dollars.

based on what? the whole area is getting less white as we speak. maybe not the kentlands but other areas.

That's the point why QO is more at risk. QO is one of the few schools that is getting more white and UMC. Combination of growth around the Kentlands/Lakelands and families deciding to stay rather than go to private school or move south into Wootton or Churchill districts. The rest of the county is getting poorer but QO is on track to become a top ranked school like the Ws in 5-10 years unless MCPS intervenes.

No I mean the QO area is getting less white except kentlands. Take a look at Brown Station, Jones Lane, and Fields Road. Only the kentlands is staying white, so I disagree that QO is getting whiter. No way.

I actually took the time to look up a few data points on MCPS's website. This is where we live as well and based on observation I couldn've told you the area around QO is getting more diverse (not less).

enrollment:
2008 - 49.57% white
2013 - 45,6% white
2017 - 40.1% white

Not PP, but live in the area. Our community has definitely not gotten any more diverse over the past 20 years, shockingly. The smaller percent in whites at QO is the rapidly growing hispanic population in the Brown Station and Fields Road ES areas which is why QO is so overcrowded. The white population has been steady if not growing. It's just that the Hispanic one is growing at a much faster rate.

So QO may not be the target that you think it is.

coolio, all the MoCo real estate can tank to the lower common denominator AND all the HS's can tank to the lowest quartile of student performance. success! Just like the Los Angeles Public schools, cannibalized themselves in less than 12 years from top district to bottom district.

I'll buy it at a steep discount then put it back on the market 5 years later when they realize that none of this mattered.

how do you get a kid from wheaton to churchill without a 75+ minute bus ride?

Well, if she just bought a two-million dollar home, she can afford to send her children to private.

Not popular but she pays more in taxes.

Public schools are a public good, not an exclusive privilege, so she has no legal standing to complain.

So if silver spring can’t escape the throngs of bad students then no one should? Why not just let the schools look like the neighborhoods they pull from, biding kids won’t make the area any nicer

78% of population is AA, Asian or Hispanic county-wide in MCPS. You can’t have schools like Whitman that is 66% white with few Hispanics and Blacks.
