It happened before 8:00PM. That's really not late, especially in such a popular dining neighborhood. There would have been plenty of people around. Be safe out there, ladies.

Are you suggesting that this woman who was killed was doing something unsafe?
Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:Race crime for sure.
Well, maybe if the roles were reversed. A disheveled white man stumbling after, stalking, attacking and killing a young black professional woman out for a jog.
Yeah, that would knock Kavenaugh off the lead on all the cable channels, definitely.
But this isn't that.
This will quietly go away.

This thread is enough to give anyone serious pause about living in Logan Circle or nearby neighborhoods, I must say.
+1.

Actually I was thinking they both sound like random attacks by mentally ill drug users. WOC get attacked all the time; we just don't hear about. I seriously doubt race played a role, but race is why we're here talking about this murder instead of many others.
Please post the many others.
Seriously?

We will always be prey for crazy men simply because we are (mostly) physically weaker. This is nothing new. Waiting for men to change how they act is not a solution so stay safe, ladies!
This! x a million.
Act like you live in our current world, not the way you think things "should be." So many people just don't get this.
minus a million
That's how we get to living in a society like Saudi, where women can't go out, travel alone, dress a certain way, because men can't control themselves or their actions. Give the men a curfew. Start redirecting, and telling men to be responsible - explicitly assert: don't attack, don't rape, don't shoot, don't kill, don't assault, etc. When you keep putting it on the shoulders of women, the entitlement of men and boys grow - they have no reason to change their end.
I am a female runner, and I am f*cking tired of this sh!t.
That's quite a leap you're making.
I'm a female runner as well, and I know enough to not run in unsafe situations. It's not that hard.
And lol at "explicitly assert: don't attack, don't rape, don't shoot, don't kill, don't assault, etc." I'm sure they'll listen!
Really? So what did the victim do wrong here? She was running in a populated, largely safe urban neighborhood before dark.
Are we sure it wasn't dark? Incident occurred around 8pm. The sun set yesterday at 7:13. Looks pretty dark out on the surveillance video, too.
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU?! Who the eff cares if it was totally dark, or maybe dusk, or even if it was pitch black. Women should be able to run at night, ALONE, anytime of day without morons on the internet saying THEY should have done something differently to "be safe". This woman did nothing wrong. She was violently attacked and murdered for seemingly no reason. If that doesn't send chills up your spine, seek help. But arguing about the status of daylight is not the point of the arguments above. You are part of the problem.
Of course they should be able to. Absolutely. But they can’t. Because it’s not safe. Wishful thinking does not make it otherwise.
That's completely absurd. So you think 50% of the population should be crippled in their ability to get to and from work, pick up their kids from aftercare/daycare, etc? The sun sets a FIVE PM at the height of winter!
Actually I think we are in agreement. We both believe that all people (women and men both) should be safe in that area at all times. But I am saying that it is currently not safe for anyone. That’s a fact. And we should demand that that change, by enforcing vagrancy laws and eradicating the prostitution in the area for starters. But the DC Government seems unwilling or unable to do that sadly.
Also absurd. Although this was an awful tragedy, we don't need to sweep the streets of all homeless people or exaggerate the actual situation. The reason this was so shocking is because it was rare.
Really? That's what the police want you to think, but actually it is shockingly common. We used to live very close to where this attack took place (10th and M) and in a matter of a few years, there were three murders around us. In fact, my husband was severely beaten (into a coma) close by.
People seem to have forgotten these as well -

These crimes are totally different. One is not anywhere close to this neighborhood - this is NOT Bloomingdale. And the other was a craigslist setup.
