I'm fairly certain the last paragraph means that "I didn't take advantage of everything I was given and as a result I became who I would have been in absense of those benefits"

I don't think she meant that, though. I don't think her writing is all that strong.

Somehow it's a magnet for the clueless and the entitled.


I had the opposite perspective. She gives a account of all of their thinking at the time and how the decision came to be. She recognizes that it's hard to know for something like college what is a good decision. I like that she didn't neatly tie up any answers.


High schoolers need some solid, evidence-based guidance, instead of having to reinvent the wheel and often failing...with massive debt.
