ASFS was deemed a good fit for an option School - it makes so much sense to move the Key program there.
You are not taking away a neighborhood school, because everyone around ASFS attends Taylor.
And many around Key already attend ASFS - everyone who doesn’t want Spanish.
This swap is the ONLY thing out of the whole thing that makes total sense.

Yes, and it would be the least disruptive and easiest to manage, too.

Ultimately, I think it's only going to be a two-school swap, because the time/money to manage anything else with everything else going on is just not there. Will it be perfect? No, but nothing ever is that involves people.

They can look at it all again the next time we build a new school and see if there are other swaps/moves that could happen at that time. This process ain't going to be the last one, after all.

No, Key Immersion school is not projected to have 825 kids, and even if it had a high number, next year is lottery only so they can just shrink the immersion program for a few years.

Key the zone IS projected to have 850 kids if not next year, then soon, as much of the neighborhood preference kids move to the neighborhood school (currently at ASFS). Swapping ASFS and Key does not solve the over population problem. Making them both neighborhood schools helps a little, but either moves immersion to Nottingham where it will wither or to ATS and then dominos Traditional school to Nottingham which is very bad optics.

They will probably swap key and ASFS and then fiddle with the boundaries (Rosslyn to long branch and Taylor most likely). Immersion folks tend to be way more low key than the ATS crowd and ASFS is not as radical a losistic change.

Wish they they would come to their sense and re-instate neighborhood preference for Key school, and leave these schools where they are. There was nothing wrong here till they started fiddling; Reed would have redrawn western edge but didn’t need to affect this part of town

On the one hand, you can’t move them south because it would overcrowd the S Arlington schools in favor of N Arlington. On the other hand, you want them close enough to S Arlington that they will attract many S Arlington residents. No win situation wherever they move them and if they don’t.

I’ve been saying make Barcroft and Randolph and Carlin Springs immersion schools for years. Cater to the immigrants and give the middle class a reason to want to be there. Make those neighborhood schools immersion schools.

SB doesn't have the guts to fight Glencarlyn to put a comprehensive high school at Kenmore. So, if that many secondary students are at the Career Center site, Montessori needs to move. Comprehensive or not, the working group has pretty broad agreement that 3,000 high school students need to have recreational facilities; so fields will be needed and the Henry building will need to make way.

Well, then people better convince Glencarlyn that they'll go to Wakefield if a new high school is built at the Career Center site. Maybe then they will rethink their opposition to a high school at Kenmore.
