Happy enough with the restaurant offerings. Ex: Kazan's, Greek Taverna, Assaggi, Pasa Thai, Capri, Cafe Oggi, Tachibana, Miyagi, J. Gilbert's, Pulcinella's, Amoo's, Ichiban, Dal Grano, Mylos, Masala, El Tio, Lost Dog, Sweet Leaf, Madison Deli, Santini's, Rocco's, McLean Pizza, MFR, Moby Dick, Red Tomato, Subway, Chipotle, Cava, McDonalds. Plus Tysons, Vienna and Falls Church are nearby w/more.
McLean has the most expensive homes, the top schools, the best location. It wouldn't be fair to corner the market on all the best restaurants as well.
You're nuts. Let me highlight the crappy ones for you.
I have no idea where or what Dal Grano is, and I've lived here for 20 yrs. Tachibana and Ichiban are both good. J. Gilbert's and Kazan's are very overpriced and mediocre at best. Lost Dog isn't even in McLean proper. Half of them are pizza--guess you left out Listrani's, Dominos, and Pizza Hut?
McLean's is a food desert.

It doesn't even have a decent grocery store. McLean is not for foodies.
McLean has an enormous Giant, one of the three Balducci's in the DC region, several Safeways, a Harris Teeter, and a Wegmans scheduled to open in Tysons/McLean in two years. There are Whole Foods in the adjacent towns (Falls Church and Vienna) and a Trader Joe's in Falls Church as well.
Exactly. No good grocery stores. Gourmet Giant was good back in the day. But nothing now.
There are plenty of good grocery and restaurant options in McLean. You must be very bored.
Are you going to post the list that has Subway, etc. again?![]()
There are some decent options if you are stuck in McLean (AKA Cava), but there really aren't any restaurants that are good enough to draw people in from other areas. It's just not a foodie place. That's fine. Plenty of other nice things about McLean, but great food is not one of them.
There are plenty of people from outside McLean who will make a special trip to restaurants like Kazan's, J. Gilbert's, Tachibana, and Esaan. Whether they are your personal favorites, or McLean rises to the level of a "foodie place" (said no one ever) is not especially relevant.
I do like Tachibana but I wouldn’t drive out for it. The whole point was that there are NOT a good amount of high-quality restaurants. Or grocery stores. It’s a bit surprising because it’s an otherwise nice area.
Another PP called it a food desert. Spot on. It’s not the end of the world but don’t try to pretend like it’s not true. And don’t worry - I’m sure more restaurants will move in as the average age decreases.
A lot of people do. Including me. I lived in Japan for 3 years and it is the best sushi I have had in this area. Also, unlike most Japanese restaurants, this is owned and operated by a Japanese. I love going in there because I can practice my Japanese and order my favorite foods that I grew to love in Japan. There is no other restaurant like that in the DC area. If so, please tell me. Every other one I've been to is Korean operated and does not serve authentic Japanese food.

Ok. I was mistaken. McLean has ONE great restaurant that a small number of people will drive to visit. Wow. What a food Mecca?!![]()
I’m sure (I hope) there will be better options in the future, but slim pickings today.
You are so obnoxious.

McLean needs to redo the chesterbrook shopping area , dump that crappy safeway for a whole foods. Get rid of all Giants and Safeways. Put in Arlington style development with condos
I agree on the safeway, but absolutely not on the Arlington style condos. Are you kidding? That's why people live in McLean- not Arlington. We have mature trees, large lots, etc. Stupid suggestion.
