Wrong. They got automatic consideration of their Dreamer bill.

If the Republicans don't come up with a solution for the Dreamer issue between now and Feb 8th, an automatic vote on the Dems' DACA bill will come up.

And when that happens, several red state senators in the southwest will have to decide whether they side with the Dems or whether they go back home and face not getting re-elected by their latino constituencies.

Also assuming it’s passed by senate and House, does that mean the govt is reopened tomorrow first thing?

Has the senate officially voted on this? Any word on whether written assurances from McConnell (even if it’s only whatever sound byte he said earlier) made it in?

House Democrats are pissed and will not vote for this Senate deal that Schumer and company supported. Pelosi and Hoyer say they will not support it though it will still pass since the Republicans control the House.

Think this might actually be a Pyrrhic victory for the gop. Americans are generous and empathetic. Think we lose sight of that here in the beltway. Suspect that daca will become a symbol of the tenor that has taken hold and that the vast majority of Americans do not support.

To foreigners? Come on. The reason Dems caved so fast is bc they knew this was becoming a - protecting illegals vs Americans - spin. Us vs them plays well most everywhere in the country even with mildly moderate types.

Fast becoming? It had only been a weekend. Slow down.

Yup. McConnell didn’t promise Ryan would bring a vote, just himself. Clever, clever.

So meaning even if a bill clears the senate and goes to the house, the house will just not take it up? If that’s possible, damn the dems are trusting/stupid.

Playing the longer game isn’t stupid.

Sure. Just ask Ryan on November 7 when Dems control the House and he’s no longer Speaker. A very stable genius.

No assurance that Ryan will go along with anything that his caucus finds unacceptable and Trump could still veto anything that does not meet his requirements.

I can't see the Democrats wanting to link DACA to another shut down because ultimately it was an unwinnable situation: shut down the government affecting tens of millions of Americans to champion the cause of illegals.

You say clever, I say dirty. Let's see how others view it.
