Regarding Kate Middleton, I think people mean she's not trendy and has a sort of neutral, conservative "pretty" look.

When I think of classic beauty I think of symmetry and very balanced proportions. Yes, there is Old Hollywood Classic, like Grace Kelly, Vivian Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor, but classically beautiful is much broader than that in my opinion: for example, Lupita Nyongo, Alek Wek, Diana Ross, Whitney Houston....

Unfortunately in the western world, it refers to the usually white looking features of large doe eyes, small thin nose that is not a button nose, full well shaped lips that aren't too big, high cheek bones, angular face.

Sometimes ethnic women can also meet the criteria and fit the definition:

Don’t know who 3 and 4 are but they are not what would typically be described as classic beauties. I would add Salma Hayek to that list before those 2.

Nah. Liz Taylor was only 5’2”.

Classic beauty just means a beauty that involves a symmetric, well-proportioned face, features on the delicate side, none disproportionate (even if its beautiful or sexy in its own way, e.g. Angelina's mouth, Amal's eyebrows), perhaps a statuesque, sculptural quality to face and body. I agree with others that although its not perhaps strictly part of the definition, it implies someone who is more elegant and pretty than sexy.

I would say that there are plenty of non-Anglo women that meet the definition--as others said, Halle Berry, Iman, also Lupita Nyong'o, Aishwarya Rai, maybe Thandie Newton, Freida Pinto. And on the other side, definitely actresses like Grace Kelley and Ava Gardner.

This. Classic beauty does not mean "most beautiful," it refers to a particular kind of facial symmetry and proportion, which can be found in women of all coloring. There are many gorgeous women who are not classically beautiful. And I agree that if your definition of classic beauty does not include Grace Kelly, then your definition bears no resemblance to what the term actually means.

Yes. It refers to a fine boned face structure where the face is almost masculine-looking with high definition cheekbones. The look isn't cute or sexy. It is almost manly but with feminine features. Angelina is gorgeous but too sexy. Adele too.

I’ve always thought “beautiful” and “sexy”
are two completely different things.

Wow she is stunning.

Gong Li, Michelle Yeoh and Ziyi Zhang are also beautiful.

All of them are beautiful. I think Ziyi Zhang is the best example of an East Asian classic beauty

The one on the bottom is prettier. The girl on top - there is something weird about her nose. She kind of looks like an alien.

Nope, not with her nose (I know, because I have the same nose she does). Her eyes are also too close together. Not saying she's not pretty...just not classic.

As others have said, Grace Kelly is the ultimate classic beauty. Honestly, I don't think anyone even comes close (except maybe Elizabeth Taylor).

Halle Berry and Audrey Hepburn.

i agree with this. among youngish actresses she comes pretty close to the ideal.

+1

No way, when I hear the word "basic", she comes to mind. If she didn't come from money I could easily see her blending in as your average Joe.

From her generation of blonde actresses, I'd say Charlize Theron or Diane Kruger are more classic beauties than GP.

i agree, basic

As basic as it gets. Gwneth's mother is a beauty though.
