yes

certain private schools only go to one or the other.

St Albans/NCS/Bullis ddoes capital

landon/holton/stone ridge/Mater Dei do Mrs. Simpson's

kids from sidwell tend to go only if they have friends from other schools going

I am 23 now and attended Mrs. Simpsons when I was younger. It was one of them most rewarding experiences I had. Sadly I didn't stick with it as I left the private school scene in middle school and now wish I had stuck it out. Looking back most of my manners and poise come from what I learned there. Please don't hate on this program, because for some, it was very rewarding and I do wish I could have finished all the way through.

It seems like a dated kind of exclusivity. Sort of like fraternities and sororities. It's so nice to get invited, but at the end of the day it probably isn't about your SATs or GPA, but about who you know and how popular you are.

Exactly why this should be in the private schools discussion thread. George Hughley exemplifies what students absorb into part of their character when they only hang around entitled private school children and grow up with a sense of superiority their entire lives. Only the private school thread will appreciate this finishing school as another way to further cloister themselves from the rest of the world. The rest of us read about this class and people like George Hughley and are happy that we are not "invited". By the way, our horrible public school teaches these types of dances too. I know some former Mrs. Simpson's students who are in their late teens. Not an impressive group. Manners and etiquette are learned first hands from parents who consistently model manners and kindness as a lifestyle.

Lucky for you things have changed in the last 20 years. It really isn't that exclusive.

What I don't understand is why this is coming up on a schools general discussion thread? If it's a private invite type of place, it doesn't belong here. This class sounds pathetic and discussions of exclusions and classiness do not go together. Being classy involves being able to deal with all types of people with grace. I'm glad Ms. Simpsons classes are going downhill. Sounds like people are catching on that she isn't as classy as she presumes to be.
