Assaults by Uber drivers get reported in local media but I haven't yet seen any major media outlet do a larger look. It's past time. I also would not let my teen daughter use it.

I know people who’ve put 9 year olds in Ubers in DC in a pinch. The fact that you have the driver’s # and can track the ride on your phone... I don’t see how this is less safe than kids walking on the street alone.


That's pretty sad that you cannot pick up your kid or make arrangements for someone close to them to pick them up. I'm surprised that the drivers will pick up young kids and take the liability. If you are too busy to parent, don't have kids or so many.

Yes, really. We moved to DC from another metro area. He used Uber/Lyft there, and he uses Uber here. Again, I maintain pretty careful watch over the car’s movements, but he still gains confidence and a sense of independence. He’s learning to be aware but not afraid, and it’s great.

Not in practice. My 16 year old and all her friends Uber together all over the place. I have let my daughter Uber alone, but when that happens I require her to use Uber black and call me when she is in the Uber and tell me she is on her way home. I also make her use the Life360app.
