I agree. She was already planning to do what she was going to do. 9/11 gave her an out.

Also, she was definitely with someone at the store who knew her. Her picture and story was plastered all over the place in the wake of 9/11. This person would have come forward. If this person--an Indian woman about the same age had died in 9/11 then it would be fairly easy to narrow down. Neither happened. These women left together that day and 9/11 was a coincidence.


I wonder if Sneha and this woman left the country together or if they are still somewhere in the U.S.

Cell phones were not as ubiquitous then as they are today. As a manager of a team that travelled around the country weekly, I had fights with my CFO over the fact that we did not provide them with cell phones. She thought it was an unnecessary extravagance. This doctor may have had a pager or phone from work, but had to turn it in when she lost her job.

I agree with this also. The previous poster says they knew her - why do you think she bought all that stuff, including three pairs of shoes which someone would presumably not buy for a friend, if she were planning on killing herself?

The husband is super sketchy including the fact that he agreed to the story but would not share what the private investigator found. Then again they obviously had a really odd relationship considering that she often didn't come home overnight and it didn't seem to bother him. It's possible the investigator found she was doing some more sexual stuff and the husband did not want it made public because he knew it would make it less credible and/or cared about that she died in the WTC.

This is an interesting story.


The Sneha described in the NYMag article bears absolutely no resemblance to the Sneha I knew. So, either she became a very different person or the article isn’t very accurate. No disputing she had gotten kicked out of her program though. To me, that is the biggest mystery— how and why did she go from the confident very together girl that always had something interesting to say to the woman who seemingly had a failing marriage and was lost in her career..

I’d like to think she walked into a whole new life, but it is hard to imagine her giving up all contact with her family.


Based on the article, her life was utterly falling apart. There were tons of red flags (getting fired and then suspended, false accusations of assault, a night in jail, etc.). I'm inclined to think her disappearance was related to her having completely lost control of her life.

The idea that she would meet people at bars and stay at their homes overnight simply to chat and do art isn't believable.

It seems so strange that there has not been even one person who saw her at the wtc. Has that happened to many other people who died that day?
I think the husband's story is fishy - the phone call especially.

That's the question - is she a 9/11 hero, victim of an unrelated crime or someone who used a terrorist attack to run away from her life.

She often didn't come home apparently. If she went back to the apartment drunk, she might have called his cell not realizing he was there.

The bags aren't a big part of the story. She was seen on video leaving the store on 9/10 then possibly but probably seen on video at her apartment entrance on the morning of 9/11 around the same time the first plane was crashing into the the tower. She never intended to go home after the shopping trip.

This is a good point. Its hard to imagine a building wouldn't have a back door or garage entrance. I wonder if she frequently used another door.
