I don't know about shooting heroin, but the athletes and college-bound kids were definitely raiding their parents' pill stashes and using plenty of opioid pills, as well as anything else they/ we could find, and there was plenty to be found. More than a few kids smoked weed laced with PCP, too.

Heroin wasn't readily available anywhere at my Fairfax Co HS in the 80s. Alcohol and weed--yes.

I (and dozens of my friends) did all of these things at Williamsburg and Yorktown in 1980's. The more things
change, the more they stay the same.


I'm the 9th grade partying poster and also went to YHS and WMS. Trust me it wasn't just the losers/stoners (aka, "grits" back in the day). For the most part, we were all on the college track and went on to a range of colleges, including the Ivy's, and have led productive lives. My point here is not that under age drinking and drug use is good. Just that it's not a new phenomenon. From what I see of APS kids today, they are a whole lot harder working and accomplished then we ever dreamt of being.

Not in California when I was in 9th grade in 1979. Now 11th and 12th grade - yes, there was a stoner/partying group, but they were mostly losers. The AP classes/college track kids generally didn't drink or smoke pot.
