Plenty of shootings among rural whites. Plenty of early deaths from other causes as well.

If you think crime rates in rural areas are even remotely comparable to crime rates in say. West Baltimore, you are a special kind of stupid.

When plants leave small towns for overseas, when computers and robots take over jobs, when farming becomes extinct, and online sales take over, there is not enough employment to sustain them. Many can't afford to live in the cities. Many can't afford to sell their house because it is upside down because no one wants to move there. Many have no transportation. Many lovely towns have gone to shit because the government does not step in to help. And by help I mean offer massive tax cuts to companies who open up in small towns, set up computer tech schools, and encourage colleges to build satellite schools nearby. No only to help educate but bring in tons of jobs.

The government has spent a fortune on inner cities to no avail. Inner city families have walkability and public transportation to get to jobs. There is no reason to be unemployed living in a city.

Well, jobs are incredibly more accessible in the inner city vs. rural America. It's not even close.


Stop complaining and pull yourself up by the bootstraps! No jobs around? Start a business! No customers for your business because there are no jobs? Have everybody start a business!

OK, so people in West Baltimore can't realistically get to where the jobs are, and people in rural Kentucky also can't realistically get to where the jobs are. Yay, I guess.

There is plenty of crime in rural Appalachia too. My neighbor grew up in eastern Kentucky and said that nearly everyone has dogs there. Not as pets but for protection. They will bark to alert the family that someone is coming and they choose dogs that can and will bite if trained.

DP... it's the same reasons why people can't find jobs... no education. When you have that many people living together, crime goes way up. So, inner cities also have the added issue of high crime that rural people don't have to deal with. As a female, I wouldn't feel safe walking in those neighborhoods at night or taking public transportation at night.
