Oh, really? Funny it doesn't say that anywhere I can see.
And which god, so I am clear?

You might as well quote a random book on the NYT top 100 fiction. Nice story, but has zero bearing on fact, or science, or truth.
They think you do - or should- believe what they do, therefore you'll be impressed by a Bible verse showing that they are right.
or maybe spouting Bible verses is all they know how to do when confronted with something they don't know how to address logically
Either you will place as your authority God, the evidence for whom is clearly shown in the creation around us, and the knowledge of whom presented in the Bible, or you will place as your authority the knowledge of man who once stated as fact that the earth was flat, snake oil can cure disease, and currently, that humans evolved from an ape-like ancestor.
Anyway, this is a religion forum for those who believe in God. That you think this is fiction does not negate the truth that God does indeed exist. Your disbelief does not in any way negate the existence of God.

I don't think there's a man in the sky who made human beings special. We're not, and our souls are not. We are born, we try to do what we can on this planet, and then we die. Circle of life.
There is not a "man" in the sky but a living God who created all things. We are indeed special, created for a purpose, not the result of lucky evolutionary chance but by specific and direct design.
Are not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?
But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.
--Luke 12:6
Humans are more valuable than birds, which God also created for a purpose.
Understand, ye brutish among the people: and ye fools, when will ye be wise?
He that planted the ear, shall he not hear? he that formed the eye, shall he not see?
