Well. They had ODDLY carpeted around the damn thing. Why would you do that when it was a piece of furniture essentially? So we had a giant (like 6 feet by 3 feet maybe) section of the basement that was cement. Worst thing ever. We had no $ to carpet so for like 2 years we had it covered with a piece of rug.
Ridiculous! I would try to get compensation to re-carpet.

And the transplanted shrubs probably didn't do very well being transplanted depending on time of year. Our neighbors rearranged lots of shrubs in their yard for "staging" (at least they didn't take them!) and the plants all died shortly after the new people moved in.

Same here. When we bought our condo the Elfa was there, we assumed it would be and when we sold, the same thing. We had added to it over the years so there was some sunken cost. Never even thought to take it. I guess it technically would count as removable figure because other than the bar, the fixture is not attached to the wall, but taking a custom fit closet just seems odd and cheap.

eh, the movers don't unscrew, unbolt and take down fixtures and rods. Nor do they unscrew lightbulbs. That was the owner or the agent, one of the two.
Um, why would an agent ever do this?
I don't know. Why would a seller do that?

Unless the shrubs were sentimental or a memorial of sort. But I would expect the seller to be up front about that.
Even then it would be up to you to clearly state that you were taking those shrubs with you and offer to replace or compensate.

I would as I took a lot of time selecting them and we can reuse them. Its an easy DIY. I'd do it before we sold the house. Same with faucets and there stuff we want to keep.
As long as you did it before you sell/show the house I don't see any issue.

Have you ever imported shrubs? There's your answer. The purchase and delivery of live plants is expensive as fuck. Not to mention the fact that you literally have to wait for them grow to your desired maturity / height.
Somebody who would dig up shrubs in the middle of the night knows darned well that they are being sneaky. No way is that o.k.

we had a family in our mclean neighborhoo leave and move into a multi-million dollar brand new mansion in mclean.
They dug up all the shrubs in front of the house to transplant to their mansion in mclean. what the f'ck? new neighbors were shocked, just couldn't believe it. We couldn't believe it either, who digs up all the shrubs in the front yard when they move? they struck it rich in the 2000 tech stock runup. yet they were so cheap to stiff someone over shrubs.
