What I object to is spending money on feel-good gestures, while simultaneously and shamelessly taking away the scholarships of poor black inner-city students. What makes more sense? Removing street signs and renaming them because - racism - or giving poor children the ability of getting out of schools that don't serve them and into environments where learning is prized, and they can thrive, grow, and break the poverty cycle?

The removal of street signs and statues helps rich white people feel good about themselves, but does nothing to help those individuals. It amounts to a shameless head pat.

Well I object to "feel good" gestures like trying to repeal Obamacare, as I don't think that doesn't actually helps anyone, I object to "feel good" measures prohibiting gay marriage or allowing caterers to deny service to gays as that DEFINITELY doesn't help anyone, I object to "feel good" measures like propping up unsustainable trillion-dollar war policies in the middle east because that sure hasn't helped anyone, I object to "feel good" measures like slashing taxes and government budgets because it sure doesn't help anyone to have crumbling infrastructure, polluted air and water, contaminated food and unsafe products, I object to "feel good" measures like "states rights" because a state jurisdictional boundary can't stop polluted air from blowing across the border, and can't stop the flow of pollution in rivers from the upstream state (laws of physics and common sense of "shit flows downhill" that you right wingers seem to think can be trumped by idiotic ideology)... Idiocy? Bullshit. Street signs get replaced all the time, it's not some "great expense." Most street signs get replaced roughly every 10 years regardless of name changes because they get weathered, lose reflectivity, get damaged, stolen, whatever.
