I struggle with the Catholic thing too. I have reached the conclusion that the bible is a book of inaccuracies and that the thought of a heaven and hell simply insults my intelligence. That being said, I do not criticize those that believe, it's just not something I can believe accept. However, I do attend church regularly and give generously, especially since we are raising our kids in the church, but I recognize the hypocrisy. It's a giant struggle…I really and truly believe that religion is just a business. They even ask for 10%, or as much as you'll part with.

Then why expose your kids to something you feel so negatively about?

I will let them make their own choice when the time comes, just as I did even though I was raised Catholic.

so you want them to have your exact experience? You want your children to be taught that a book full of inaccuracies, according to your own assessment, has great value and that they should be taught to believe concepts that insult your intelligence.

If you were taught s a child that certain ethnic groups were evil, would you want your children to be taught that so they could reject it on their own later? would you want them to be taught that girls are not as good as boys?

There are ways for your kids to learn about religion without being taught to believe things that you yourself have rejected as an adult. Please consider a unitarian church or an ethical society.
