Why is it that only charters closed? Agree that DCPS made the right call.

Hogwash...they didn't close schools when DC had the "sniper" so what this fear about for seen traffic disruptions. We have thousands walk these streets for festivals...will park and walk blocks to tour. Yet, will make it seem like it would require the parting of the red sea to commute for the next two days. These outlandish talks...is such a farce..you can basically stand in any part of this city and walk from a transit system option to a school. These fake-azz gentrified teachers who are here claiming they are so worried on how they can get to their children...only validates my prejudiced thoughts of y'all.

+1. sometimes I call it the Med line, since you actually need to be medicated to keep your sanity while trying to get to work on time amid the various delays.

Easy getting to our DCPS today and then easy getting to work. So grateful that we're not looking at extending the school year because DCPS jumped too soon. Calmer heads prevailed.

commute to work CC to Kst: perfect, fast and smooth (I rode by Eaton, one of the schools some posters thought would be most affected because close to the Vatican embassy, which is at least half a mile away), there were plenty of kids going to school, walking or by car and no issues)

kids' commute to school (Murch) - no prob.

I met a colleague who lives in Brookland, she had no issues either, other than leaving earlier than usual to make sure to be on time


as anticipated, no reason whatsoever to close down all schools as some posters were asking. glad for once DCPS kept its head on the shoulders.

These events are always nothingburgers for the average commuter.

Capitol Hill SE to BASIS - no traffic.

Child left at her regular time from Takoma Station to Wilson and it was a breeze. She leaves out at 7am, so not sure if it's because she's ahead of the crowd or not.

Took my kids downtown to Basis this morning on the Ted Line. Left 45 minutes early. Fastest commute ever.

I hope all the early naysayers on this thread read closely the WTOP Street closure announcement above. There is going to be some serious gridlock and I know from personal conversations that the cabbies aren't going to be out. Please be smart and plan ahead!

A lot of people with the option, including Feds, will also work from home or at a satellite office. We're big boys and girls who don't panic at the drop of a Mitre.
