I think it's a silly thing to spend money on but not nearly as bad as what people spend on weddings. At least you can pawn a ring if need be

My ring is still sentimental, just like my great grandmother's veil and my grandmother's cake topper that I used and am saving for my daughters.

I guess yours isn't insured. That's ok if you want to take that risk but DH and I wanted to make sure it was protected.
