No we are not. See above. MCA does not speak for the McLean residents. This is all bullshit.


McLean has about 45,000 residents and the MCA has about 600 paying members.

On the other hand, the MCA has some clout since the more active members do know about things like zoning laws and school budgets. The current Dranesville Supervisor, John Foust, was once very active in the MCA. The committee member who spearheaded this particular resolution, Louise Epstein, is a former School Board candidate who probably understands the FCPS budget better than any current member of the School Board.

So they don't speak for everyone in McLean, but they aren't totally pulling this stuff out of a hat, either. The very large class sizes in McLean schools are a major source of concern among many parents.

Actually we are very nice people but most of your posters are very ignorant. Not ONE of you PPs have noted the fact that a position paper from the McLean Citizens Association means absolutely nothing. Do you even know WHAT the McLean Citizens Association is? Did you realize that there is no official town, no real chamber, no real mayor in McLean? It is an unincorporated area. The MCA serves ONLY as an unofficial town council for the residents of the McLean area which has no governmental structure of its own. All it is is a forum where residents can meet only three times a year to talk. There are only six officers, 14 at large members and 20 members representing neighborhoods. It has zero political clout. It meets only 3 times a year and costs $15 to join. I have never joined. I don't know anyone else who has joined. No one attends the meetings. It's considered a maverick group. So for all these pages you posters are assuming that real McLean people are really making this fuss. I've never heard about it before reading this post and am smart enough to know that anything coming out of MCA means zero.

Meanwhile I am paying over $18,000 a year in property taxes x 25 years and have sent only one child through the local public high school. As soon as we finish with state universities we are moving out because the property taxes are killing us.

51% of the classes with more than 30 kids in them are AAP.

But back in the real world, Ms Swanson, who is running against Ms Gross, has nothing on her website about code enforcement. Ejecting the browns is not good politics in Mason District, whatever appeal it has to anons in the interweb.


Mason District Resident here. Code enforcement is brought up in every single community that I've attended. People are not politically correct when discussing the erosion of neighborhoods, when there are some pretty simple things that can be done about it. We are not looking for Sheriff Arpaio - just some semblance of showing a commitment to adhering to laws that are on the books.

Well, the governor came from McLean so you never know.

The more likely scenarios is that there is some compromise worked out, or a new School Board is elected this fall that insists upon a change in the staffing formula. The primary beneficiaries of the current formula are the Mason, Lee and Mount Vernon Districts, and the School Board has 12 members. Not that many people vote in off-year School Board elections, and the entire Board is up for re-election, so there could be a major policy change coming.
