I've noticed the same trend; it's like many people are desperate to make this a hate crime without regard to any of the facts known.

Why?

Why is it "desperate" to hold the opinion that it is a hate crime? It's not exactly farfetched given the statements from the neighbors, his web site, and the fact that they were shot in the head, not in the parking lot but in their apartment.

- because people on this site and others started screaming HATECRIME! before any of the facts were known - other than the murder suspect was white and two of the victims dressed modestly.

That is why it seems desperate. And by "not exactly far fetched" - do you mean it's ok to just assume hate was the motive?

Assumptions, assumptions.

You are being misleading about the known facts. Beyond being white, the suspect also demonstrated through his Facebook postings that he is extremely hostile to religions and those who outwardly express their religions. The women did not only "dress modestly", but dressed in a manner that is identifiably Muslim. One of the victims previously told her father that she felt the suspect hated them because of who they were. In the end, it could be that none of this was a factor in the murders (though I suspect it was). However, to suggest that such a linkage is "far-fetched" requires a certain intentional obtuseness.

Although I'll add that I think the shooter appears mentally ill and/or perhaps dealing with substance abuse issues with his extreme anger, I agree with all you've said here. Reading in the news and listening to news reports about this wonderful family makes it all unbelievably horrific and sad. It's heartbreaking to think they lost their lives in this way.

As an aside, a PP is 100% right. Who first mentioned this parking dispute story? The person/people who would most benefit from it being not being a premeditated hate crime. Who would that be? The killer and his wife. This guy KNOWS he is looking at the death penalty. So I am sure he and his wife will start talking about the victims threateneded HIM. Wait and watch.

Actually, that's not true. The male victim's ex-roommate mentioned the parking issues with that shooter, as did another neighbor who said the shooter was constantly harassing people in the complex about parking and noise. I'm not one of the PPs who is adamant that this is not a hate crime. I don't think anyone at this stage can be adamant one way or the other.

Yeah and they mentioned that he hated muslims too. An angry bigot can be both angry and a bigot.

Yet if s black person punches a white person on the street, you all say hate crime without the slightest hint of motive.

In this case we have his beliefs on the web and statements from neighbors.

No, that is just called crime.

You must have amnesia, because that is not what conservatives have said on this site, over and over. And on Brietbart, and on Fox, and on WND, and on Rush.

I haven't read all of the comments, but there's an interesting article in the WaPo today about the difficulty of proving hate crimes. One of the other neighbors in the complex also noted that the shooter was generally always angry and hostile to everyone - that he had "equal opportunity rage" or something to that effect. I'm guessing he had serious mental issues (duh) but whether he was targeting these poor kids for being muslim.... I don't know. Maybe targeting them for being religious - that's a bit easier to argue I think since his social media accounts all seem to show he was definitely very anti-religion (but so far, none of the reports point to anything specifically against muslims; though there were several tirades against Christian conservatives). I think the co-opting of slogans and protests from issues over black people and police though are kinda insulting -- I mean, the shooter here is definitely in jail and most definitely will get prosecuted, right? and no one is defending him or saying that there are 2 sides to this or any kind of horseshit like that. media has been on this as soon as the police actually ID'ed the victims and disclosed what happened. If anything, the media is possibly being reckless in overstating the religion angle. this is a terrible terrible senseless crime, and all lives matter equally but I'd be lying if I didn't say it strikes me as more tragic when the vics appeared as young and full of promise as these 3. but I don't think it serves anyone to jump to conclusions or protests before an investigation is done. these days, it just seems like automatic outrage is just a given, and no one gives a sh*t about actual facts -- symbolism and slogans trump all.

It seems like Mike Huckabee desperately wants to make Beyoncé the embodiment of what's wrong with America - who the hell knows why people become obsessed with things. Blame it on the times...we're a generation of hyperfocused hand-held device holders that are simultaneously on opposite ends of the spectrum seeing how we've got both obsessive–compulsive disorder and attention-deficit disorder.
How odd that he didn't throw Eminem in there with Beyonce. Or MGK, Yelawolf, Bad Meets Evil, etc. All white rappers, by the way.

But that's for another thread.....

Because they are atheophobic hatemongering bigots trying to stir up anti-athiest hate.

But doesn't that dodge the question particular to this unfolding case?
