Can you please give examples of these fashions. I'm genuinely curious! Give examples of some styles that are "fashion forward" that you keep seeing in these other cities.

I am the PP and just spent time looking up health goth and normcore. Honestly, following these trends does NOT show your creativity or personal style. Dress in what makes you feel good but don't fool yourself that those ttends will make you stand out. In fact, norm core looks a lot like the DC style you so hate!

Assuming you are getting unwanted negative attention, I suspect your hair is only part of the issue.

I have a good friend here who has pink and purple hair (she also has a serious job). And I can tell you, I've never noticed anyone looking at her especially strangely in DC. Or outside of DC - we've traveled together, too.

My conclusion from this isn't that you aren't getting the attention you say you're getting, but that I don't think it's the hair you can attribute the attention to.

I have no idea what it could be. Maybe it is just that you're young and pretty, and some people are weird about folks who are young and pretty. Maybe it's something else.

This is spot on. Last year there was a thread on the govt shutdown and what would Feds do once they get paid again. I said I'd get a pedicure. Several people freaked out - "these Feds are spending money on pedicures?! How dare they respond with anything other than saying they'd pay the mortgage or utility bills."
