No you are not sorry I am bitter. You are sorry that I called you out on justifying your illegal and immoral way to put your kid through school. You would and should go to jail for lying about where you live. The problem is not owning more than one property. The problem is not living in your property and using that address only to get your kid into a better school. Your OP said explicitly that. Sorry you are back tracking now.

As I said, some of us choose what's more important (READ MY KID'S EDUCATION) and live where we feel they are providing those. You are trying to cheat the system. I hope you get caught.

This really pisses me off. I live in a crappy apartment in a good school district so that my kid can legitimately go there. I haven't read 10 pages of crap and justification, but even if you could get away with this I sure hope you don't. Do you think I wouldn't live more space in a difference part of town???? Of course I would!!! But I decided my kid's education is more important. People like you who want to have their cake and eat it too really get on my nerves. You overcrowd our schools and make our kids suffer because you think you are above the law. Screw you! I hope you get caught and go to jail.

It is pretty easy to scam in DC, and I expect more will be doing so with the boundary changes -- specifically to avoid Hardy. Deal is filled with kids who are registered a friends houses and grandparents houses but DCPS has no enforcement. Honestly, there would be no overcrowding at all if DC got serious about enforcement.

Where is the law that says you and your immediate family can't sleep in different DC properties you own while your children attend public school? The Ozzie and Harriet model of parents sharing the same house, bedroom and bed every night of the year when they're not on vacation doesn't hold for every stable DC family in 2014. Thankfully, DCPS enrollment doesn't involve going on TV to explain exactly how one's personal life works. Some of us know that if DCPS were to investigate, they'd get nowhere because we can easily produce many more valid residency docs than we need to enroll our kids, and their toys, clothes, books etc. reside in multiple bedrooms. Remember Woody Allen and Mia Farrow sleeping on opposite sides of Central Park, and sending some of their kids to NYC public schools?

Are you attending a school as an in-bounds family even though you live/sleep elsewhere? If so, I'm sure you wouldn't mind stating what school and grade. If it makes so difference and everyone who objects is being absurd, it seems like you and others would be happy to be honest.

Not necessarily, not the tax code doesn't require that this is the case. I travel a lot for work internationally and rely on in-laws, who own one of the homes with me, to care for the kids when I'm abroad. I often stay at the home I own with the in-laws myself. Renting a 2nd place in a better boundary when you don't live there seems to be much more of a gray area to me than owning homes which are not rented, at least not in their entirety, designating the one linked with the best school as a primary residence and paying taxes on it as such.

DCPS requires you to verify residency. It's a simple process. You show a lease and a utility bill. Where is this idea that you have to meet some other standards coming from? I've not been able to find anything that says you must actually live in that place for X number of days per year.

To the contrary, it seems like DCPS doesn't care if you maintain one, two, or three residences as long as one meets the verification criteria. I'm sorry to go all lawyer on this, but just because you keep asserting something is illegal doesn't make it so.

Maybe DCPS does have detailed regulations laying out a ten-part test used to assess primary residency...but someone needs to cite to it before I can take any of these liar/cheater claims seriously.

I would like to point out that residency is governed by OSSE not DCPS. Both DCPS and DCPCSB report to OSSE. Feel free to go to the OSSE for further details.
