Of course the trouble starts way before your kid is old enough to exhibit any of these symptoms. You need to know your own kids. How much time did you invest getting to know your spouse?

Father working for pay, mother staying at home = good parenting.
Father and mother both working for pay = absentee parenting (on the part of the mother).
Father and mother both working for pay, and hiring a full-time nanny = absentee parenting (on the part of the mother).
Father saying at home, mother working for pay = absentee parenting (on the part of the mother).
See how that works?
You missed the Bethesda Super Mom, apparently, as that was the reason for my snark. So basically, women have to keep their children in their sights 24/7 or they're absentee parenting, right? Just curious, are these kids allowed to be unsupervised when they turn 18 or should mommy move to college with them as well?

Poster quoted here. Honestly, I probably wouldn't love it. How I felt at 13 and how I look at my 13 year old self now are *very* different. That said, I sure as hell wouldn't shame her about it. FWIW, I happen to be the mother of a 12 year old boy.
Also, as it happens, I'm raising my kid very differently than I was raised, so hopefully he will be older and less naive than I was.

so does that mean you'd be ok with your 13 yr old DC having sex this young? Sure, you turned out fine in your opinion. But I don't know if most girls who have sex this young (and I say girls b/c boys have a totally different psyche about sex) turn out fine. Just b/c it turned out fine for you, doesn't mean it turns out fine for most 13 yr olds.
I agree that parents need to talk about sex before 13, including contraception, but that doesn't mean I'd be ok with my 13 yr old having sex.
That's nice but what makes you think you'll a) know about it if it happens and/or b) your child will care what you say?![]()

On the plus side, if your kid is thin, attractive, smart and healthy, you get to take full credit.
What if she isn't effortlessly thin, attractive, smart, and healthy?
Also, is it okay to blame mom for food allergies due to the Hygiene Hypothesis?

Yes, women must keep their children in their sights 24/7 until the children turn 18, or they are bad mothers. After the children turn 18, the mothers must turn the children loose, or they are bad mothers. Also, if the children do anything bad while unsupervised before age 18, it's the mother's fault for not supervising them, and if the children do anything bad at age 18 or older, it's the mother's fault for either not having supervised them or not having given them independence, depending on the circumstances.
