Not true. Several kids left Madlax for Crabs and VLC before the start of the summer. The Crabs haven't lost anyone.

True. Their HS teams lost players between Fall and Summer to other clubs, and there were kids who left mid-Summer for other clubs. Most of their 2016 team starters left for Blackwolf and several of their 2017 starters left for other clubs. Not news that kids leave Madlax all the time to many other places. They have over 2,000 local kids in their program.

VLC or FCA offer much better alternatives.

There is likely a trade off whether we like to admit or not. You get crazy with high level lacrosse clubs, and you get fun experiences out of the less competitive lacrosse clubs. I'd rather be a loser dad with kids in a program where they have fun for a few years and then do something else than join the MadLax or VLC or FCA crazies. If parents from those clubs could only see themselves on tape later.

I believe the pp has asked a very good and thought provoking question and since it is not specifically related to the Madlax thread I would suggest creating a new thread with the question.

from the look at all your posts you are either (a) cabell maddux (b) a madlax player, (c) childless person, otherwise you would have the mental maturity to understand how important these topics are. I live in ellicott city and have 3 in private baltimore hs. Our club hasn't lost to madlax in sometime. I have a nephew that plays for Gonzaga and the word from the hs dc coaches is to stay away from madlax. This will have a longtime effect on his recruiting. Besides once you get to hs there are several club teams that are far better choices than madlax. What madlax excels at is having a giant middle school program, and save the email to his player, my hats off to him for that.

it seems like you will likely stay with the madlax program, but my advice to you is, once you get into hs make a new choice.

I've had two sons play for Gonzaga, and the word from the coaches to the players has been this: We don't care where you played lacrosse in eighth grade, and we don't care what elite summer team you're on. We'll play the best players we see on the field in front of us.
It was surprising -- and refreshing -- how much the Gonzaga coaches refused to buy into all the youth-lax program BS.

This is not something unique to Gonzaga. All HS coaches are expected to do well, and all of them will play the best players, period. Do you really think any HS coach would play an inferior player more just because he plays for a club that is closely affiliated with his HS program?

HS coaches just want kids who can play, and they want them to play and work on their game out of the spring HS season. They may prefer that they play offseason with their HS teammates, but no coach - Gonzaga or otherwise - is going to making playing time decisions based on their club affiliation. That said, all the HS coaches have certain opinions about certain clubs and certain club owners.

In the lacrosse world, can a HS coach help get you recruited by the colleges. Or is that club driven?

That's funny. If I believed everything my nephew said I wouldn't leave my house for fear of being attacked by aliens. This post is complete bull and utter nonsense.

Actually I think it was one of the more reasonable posts from someone who does not support madlax. I do wonder which club his kids are on though, as madlax beat both crabs and breakers this summer - usually the two best baltimore club teams (not at every age group mind you, and perhaps he is referring only to a specific age group and not club wide success). I don't agree with all the poster wrote, but at least it was somewhat thoughtful, compared to the hysterical and venomous nonsense some have posted.

My son was madlax U13 this summer and has just moved up to U15. Based on recent tryouts, his team has gotten stronger. The vast majority, perhaps even all, of the strong players are back. Plus they have added a few new players, including at least two from other clubs. Something like 80-90 boys tried out at that age group. Presumably those new players are aware of the email and decided to tryout anyway. What this tells me is the madlax still offers a strong product, parents and players are evaluating the club based on all of the relevant information-not just one email presumably written in a heated moment. Also, if you live in cetain portions of northern va, you do not have as many good alternatives as those closer to Baltimore have.

I understand VLC has also gained at this age group, and I am looking forward to good competition with those guys as well as the always strong crabs, breakers, hawks, Arden, etc. The madlax families are well beyond the email controversy. Perhaps the haters, whomhave a variety of motives, also can move on now. Instead of jawboning, go throw with your kid so they can improve in the game they love.

None of the above (a,b,c), actually the parent of 2 HS players. Congratulations on your success and being able to afford all that! Recruiting has not been hurt, there have been 65+ kids at tryouts for all age groups, including HS, this week. I appreciate the advice about high school club choices, and we are fortunate in this area to have a large selection of club choices, but no change is necessary.

Coaches have a tremendous effect on their players.

Why in the world would anyone want their kid within a 9 iron of Cabell Maddux?

There are plenty of choices for lacrosse at every level of play.

I do understand how important club lacrosse in conjunction with your hs team is. To me it's crystal clear.
