WISC test is cognitive ($380) or cognitive and achievement assessment ($700) ?

Only the cognitive assessment is necessary for AAP. They're looking for ability testing, not subject matter testing.

Don't know what practice you are quoting (GMU?) but Dr. Diana Dahlgren charges $375 for the WISC and adds-on the Woodcock-Johnson ability test for an additional $75 (for a grand total of $425). She told us that she's had great success using these two in combination, because she can report (hopefully) a high IQ but also advanced academic achievement (for example, she put in our report based on the WJ that our 2nd grader is reading more than 4 grade levels ahead). That is powerful fodder on appeal.

Don't judge the education your DC will receive based on free lunch. Go check out the center and meet the teachers.

I would choose the center because the teachers are usually better prepared to work with this group.
The teachers at a center usually have done graduate level coursework in teaching the gifted. Local level IV teachers frequently have not finished their AAP certificates.

How many AAP classes are there per grade at the Center school? If 2 or more, I would opt for Center. If only 1 per grade and there is a Local Level IV option, I would think about staying at the base school.
