I'm like both of you - and just to give you a little more fuel for slow and steady at 34, DH and I have 350k. Patiently keep contributing. It adds up.

Reading this responses really is uplifting. I'm due to move up a couple of pay grades over the next few years, so I should be able to add more to my TSP as my salary goes up since we both do a 5% contribution.

You won't. If you can buy a modest home and pay it off before retirement AND save as much as you can, you will be fine. Many people on DCUM are saving for 6 figure incomes in retirement. Almost nobody needs that much.
