Why is it in bad taste? Some people live in big houses while others live in small ones either by choice or necessity. For that matter, some have no homes at all. I guess it is in poor taste to buy a home at all. Your logic is flawed and reeks of jealousy.

I think the point rather is that 99% of us don't have a spare 1K lying around to spend on a purse. It's in bad taste, in a Marie Antoinette kind of way.

Really? I think the anti-expensive bag ladies seem more judgmental on this thread. They're the ones who started insulting anyone who spends money on a nice purse.

Agreed! Apparerntly it's consumerism at its worst if you purchase an expensive handbag. The only thing the women who stand by their decision to buy them are doing is defending their choices. And it really is their choice how they choose to spend their money. As long as they aren't asking you for a loan, or using a welfare check to fund their bag habit, or anything equally as egregious, then what difference does it make? You spend your money how you see fit and I'll spend mine how I see fit. Different strokes.

Sorry, not tomboys. The older one loves to play dress up in my closet and has already claimed her stake on a few of my bags.

LOL, did you mean "staked her claim"?

Your priorities aren't all that's backwards (your vocabulary is, too)!

Every fucking bag in the store. Who the fuck spends $1,000 on a handbag???

Seriously! If I had the money, I wouldn't do it. I'd rather purchase things that will last to give to my children and grandchildren or are extremely useful for our home.

Make no mistake: Many of us who do purchase bags like this will take care of them and pass them down to our daughters or granddaughters. I know I have a collection that I will one day pass down to my daughter.

I was thinking the exact same thing! Wouldn't the steam from the shower essentially ruin them? Doesn't truly fine art require special handling (temperatures, lighting, etc.)? No one who would care that much about preserving such fine works of art to pass down through the ages would treat those pieces like this. I call BS on the idiotic poster who claimes she knows so many of these people.

YSL. It may be. Bit over 1k but worth it. Alternatively you could probably find a discounted YSL bag on blue fly or something. I made this mistake and purchased my bag from Saks but then saw it for a few hundred cheaper on some sites.

Spend $100 on the bag, donate $900 to charity??

I take it you dine at McDonald's?

I am not the poster but, we sometimes do and "dine" off the dollar menu only! Seriously poster, times are tough. Just use a vintage and call it a day.

Those were just a few of the nasty comments. They also said pps must be ugly, unstylish, and tacky. They asked what kind of car someone drives just to prove he couldn't afford their nice bags. They made snide remarks about a health care worker changing adult diapers. They said that someone must eat in McDonald's if she doesn't have an expensive bag. They clearly look down on anyone who spends less than 1k on a bag. A lot of nastiness.

i didn't see much attitude from this side. at most people were saying you can typically tell the difference between an expensive bag and a cheap one. that is neither snobbish, judgmental nor cruel. this was in response to people going on about how an expensive bag is just a paper bag with a label attached to it...

Let me refresh your memory, since you seem to have forgotten the snobbiest and cruelest posts on this thread (made by the "expensive bag ladies"):

Ugh please don't mention Kate spade or coach. Barf. I don't think those of us talking about high quality designer bags were referring to those brands.

[In response to someone saying they “do ok” financially]

I don't think you do ok, actually. Successful men - i.e. men who can buy these bags to their wives without even bothering to think about the whole issue - are too busy to post here at work hours. You do sound like a loser trolling a fashion forum in order to pick up women. Your anger at expensive bags suggests a frustration that women want things you are not able to give them.

Oh my.

OP here. Holy crap. What is wrong with you people?
I haven't had time to check DCUM in a while so I was excited to check back and see if anyone found me a great bag ..... And needless to say I was surprised to see 11 pages of fighting about whether rich people hang picassos in the bathroom and other such fascinating topics.

Anyways, thanks for the suggestions I did get - I liked Rebecca minkoff and kooba too!

(And, FWIW, I not feel the slightest bit bad about buying myself a nice bag for my 40th bday, and no amount of DCUM vitriol will change that. I rarely treat myself to such things, I can easily afford it, and I deserve it!)

Oh for Pete's sake! Enough already! Op, buy the Tory burch in navy. It is a beautiful bag, and the color is perfect for the season. Hell...I think i am going to buy one too.
