I don't have as much time to spend at the school as I would like so events such as last nights Founder's Day Picnic are valuable for keeping my finger on the pulse of the school. My husband and I both heard a ton of grumbling and many, many complaints. I couldn't believe that the Head of the School does not even read the weekly Thursday Letter that he supposedly writes. Wow, he really doesn't care. The only parents he seemed to be pleasant to were on the Board. The rest of us mere mortals were lucky to get a hi. I wonder if he can even link my child to us? Unfortunately, WES does not have the sense of community that we want in a school so we will be attending open houses next year and apply out.

The above quote seems confusing- there are 20 in the current 8th grade (with fantastic hs placement btw). There is no "transfer option"- they are graduating. Per the numbers posted, there are 28 students who will be 8th graders next year (2013-2014).
It was also recently announced in our newsletter that the school is seriously considering the possibility of a 3rd 5th grade teacher bc of high enrollment in that grade. While there may be a few outlier enrollment numbers, it seems to me from the posted numbers that overall things are looking healthy.
I usually try not to get into nitty gritty things like this, but my family is so happy at WES (and has been for years- yes, including 3rd grade), I just felt compelled to post.

You must live in a bubble and not be talking to parents in 6th, 5th, 3rd, 2nd, 1st, or K. Many, many parents in those grades are very unhappy. Class size is getting smaller. 1st grade will have only 20 students, K does not have enough for 2 sections....
I beg to differ: you must be the one living in a bubble full of bad karma. I urge anybody interested in WES to ask the admissions office for correct numbers. Class size is not getting smaller. By the way, one good indicator is the percentage of WES parents that contributed to the annual giving campaign each year: it is about 100 percent this year.
As a WES parent, I am simply appalled by such negative posts on such a great school. I am sorry that you have these feelings for WES.
Visit the school and meet the parents, you will be surprised...
Rather than telling people to visit the Admissions Office, why don’t you give us the correct numbers so that we can all live in a factual bubble? I confirmed today that next year’s Nursery does indeed have only five families enrolled. I will get you started so that all you have to do is fill in the blanks:
2012/2013 2013/2014
Nursery 14 5
Transition 12
Kindergarten 24
1 23
2 24
3 35
4 33
5 28
6 28
7 28
8 20

This is just not my experience- or that of the (many!) families with whom I/my kids spend time. The anger and spitefulness of some of these posts makes me want to stop reading anonymous forums like dcum- but then who will post other opinions?!
