My friend lives there and says people are awful. She hates it.

The Midwest? Isn't it super humid during the summer? Is there clear distinctions between Midwest states?

It’s certainly no more humid than here!

The rust belt/older/more industrial areas of the Midwest like Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, I would include Chicago in this as well and Pittsburgh, are different than the areas further south and west like Cincinnati, Indianapolis, and Omaha. I grew up in the rust belt and the “other Midwest” feels pretty different.

+1 definitely!

Yes. But, most of the country is. We just hang out in lakes in August.
Not super clear but somewhat noticeable.

This forum is filled with posters who don't like the south, even if they've never been there.

There's Midwestern nice. And then there's Iowa nice.

Iowa nice is passive aggressive and envious. Crab bucket state. Iowans are actually horrible. Highest cancer rates, plummeting schools, morbid obesity, the whole state is a hellscape.

I’m from Iowa. I’m 5’7, 125 lbs. it’s a beautiful place w wonderful ppl. I live on an acre in town, my kids are well educated in public schools and the cost of living is low.

This is also “Iowa nice.” I’m right, you’re wrong, life is great, la la la I can’t hear you.

Look up the actual facts. Most people don’t live like that in Iowa. The state is on a massive downhill slide. Those “wonderful ppl” have the highest cancer rates in the whole US, the public schools are rotting, and why are you on dcum from Iowa anyway?

Are you from New York? Your personality is similar to Trump's!

Are you kidding? Trump LOVES Iowa.

the personality and propensity for snide, belittling remarks

Iowa nice.

More like Trump from New York!

Iowa loves Trump. Trump loves Iowa. Even the blues are pretty purple in Iowa. This snide, get-the-last-word, “life is great for me so shut up if it isn’t great for you” is the very “nice” ethos of MAGA. Iowa is toxic.

Utah, on the other hand, is actually nice. But I also think New Yorkers - in the city - are kinder than Iowa nice.

3 of my most crazy liberal friends live in IA.
