[cough] Twilight [cough] Jasper is a vampire on Twilight. I hate to say that Twilight is affecting naming trends, but Jasper came out of nowhere.

I'm not familiar with Twilight but was liking it recently because it was name of the cad Kate Winslet was trying to get over in that movie with Cameron Diaz where they trade homes in England/California. Played by Rufus Sewell.

Any name that uses a y instead of the proper vowel. For instance, I know a Jordyn. Horrendous.

I'm not a fan of Pearl, but it is quite an old fashioned name-in the same vein as Ruby and Opal IMO.

How about those parents who like to string along the same initial letter in all the names of their offspring, like the Kardashians, the Duggars ... I guess it can be creative, cute ... obsessive ...

I always thought it went the other way around-- authors and TV writers picked trending names for the characters, and then of course, the trend builds as exposure increases. Naming a character is like naming a baby. You don't pick the name in a vacuum.

Ambrose is a family name and not one I would consider using. Ursala is another.

Neither of my children have been named but two of my nieces have been.
