So it was safe for SACC to open Thursday and Friday but not tomorrow? I’m so glad my kids are old enough to stay home alone but having been there I know how rough snow days and not having SACC are in working parents.

DH thinks it is VDOT. Is it FCPS? Homeowners?

We don’t have a sidewalk in front of our house.

Homeowners! How is this even a question?

Yes, and the snow plows did a great job dumping the snowcrete from the roads onto the sidewalks that citizens worked hard to clear.

Your husband isn’t very bright. Is he really expecting VDOT to step out of their trucks and just shovel a thousand miles of sidewalks in the county?

Our HOA should be responsible for clearing the black path along the walking route to the school. It paid to have it replaced. Not sure why they can’t clear it. Stupid.

Due to the FCPS closure, all SACC/Beyond the Bell centers will be CLOSED on Monday, February 2. SACC staff are scheduled to support before- and after-school care and are not available to provide full-day programming. We look forward to reopening when students return to school.

Please note Fairfax County Public Schools’ original message is being updated to reflect this status.

According to the SACC website, they are closed on Monday too and the FCPS alert was incorrect. They should be sending a correction soon. Everybody is SOL.

The SACC confusion (of course they are closed when schools are closed) is a clear indicator that FCPS had originally planned to just delay and switched when they saw what other nearby school districts were doing.

This is so frustrating. We scheduled backup care when we saw school was closed. We then canceled the backup care when we saw specific messaging that SACC would be open.

They spent enough time writing up that message, you think they would spare a few moments to check it for accuracy.

I'm going to argue the "of course they are closed when schools are closed" logic because (1) they were open Thursday and Friday, and while I know those were pre-planned days, that brings me to (2) Montgomery County's equivalent is open for full day tomorrow even thought they normally wouldn't be. So it can be done with some forethought and planning, both of which this absolute joke of a school system lacks.
