So? That doesn't make it reasonable. There are parts of the country where days like this are typical in the winter. If the roads are fine, there's no reason to close. And the roads should be fine. There's salt after all.

And those areas have the infrastructure to handle this type of weather. We don't spend a ton of money maintaining a large fleet of plows that get used maybe once or twice a winter. The roads *aren't* fine once you get off the main roads and, unfortunately, that's where the schools are at. The hill up to my kid's school looks like it was plowed once partway through the storm and then not again since and now it's a sheet of ice.

Does it suck? Sure. But that's the reality of living in Virginia, not Vermont.

I think it’s more becuase many schools didn’t get plowed out. Custodians work on sidewalks but not plowing. Our elementary was plowed but the custodians only had front sidewalk done.

That would explain it. I don't understand why they wouldn't get plowed but maybe resources are that limited.

I think they had to spend so much time on highways and main roads that schools got put on the back burner for longer than normal.

Schools closed for Kids. SChool and Central offices opening 2 hours late.

Blame VDOT. There are still side streets not plowed.

Strangely, my street got plowed right away this time and they came back several times. So I thought this was a sign of better organization/planning. Last year it was at least a day and a half before anyone came by.

I walked to the top of my street and a car was stuck and then another car drove up to try to tie a row rope around the grille to pull it out . Now imagine that’s a bus.

I am fine with schools closing tomorrow, because the sidewalks are not shoveled on my street and there's no way for my kids to get to their bus stops other than walking in the middle of the street, HOWEVER I will say a bus is able to get to a lot of places that cars can't go.

Do they spread salt on neighborhood streets? We’ve seen sand in the past, but not yet for this storm. I haven’t been out, but I can say our street is a single lane and snow covered. You can’t see any blacktop.
