Look, Democrats, if you really insist on these high standards for our candidates while Republicans don't care about worse stuff for their candidates, Democrats will just continue to be the losing party. Please understand this.
+1. You don't need to like our candidates or believe they're good people. You just need to believe they'll be better for our country than Republicans. It's hilarious to see the Republicans infiltrating this thread and acting as though anything Jones has done is a dealbreaker. None of this would even be news for a Republican candidate because it's all pretty tame by their standards, but in any event, they know that the key is electing as many of their people as possible no matter how distasteful they may be.

Completely agree. And actions speak louder than words. I’m looking at Miyares’ actions - supporting Trump, Youngkin and all other Rs. Not a chance in hell I’d vote for Miyares.

Sadly I'm sure that there are still Democrats who would vote for such a person. I wish this country could get back to voting for the person rather than being so hyper partisan.
Louise Lucas and Mamie Locke have reaffirmed their support for Jay Jones - after the horrible text message came to light.
There are always decisions to be made about how voters feel about a candidate's character as well as their positions.
A lot of us lean Democratic and were prepared to support Jones for his positions, but the recent revelations demonstrate a real lack of character and basic decency.
The fact that Lucas and Locke - who have always stood for soaking NoVa to benefit other parts of the state - add fuel to the fire.
If I weren't prepared to support Spanberger, I would have more reservations about voting for Miyares at this point, but with Spanberger still likely assured of victory it's easier to accept the unfortunate reality that Jones has no business serving as AG. I don't like a lot of Miyares' political positions, but he's not as reckless and obviously unsuited for public office as Jones has been revealed to be.

We could have had Shannon Taylor as the AG candidate to challenge Miyares. There's no indication of similar skeletons in her closet.
I'm going to hold my nose and vote for Miyares for the first time, because Jones seems totally unacceptable to me. He is turning out to be a complete tool in all aspects of his life.
No rational person is choosing Miyares over Jones, Miyares is a trumper fascist nut job.
Sure. Jay jones has shown he is unfit for this position.
I don't care if the guy was caught speeding if he fights back against money being stolen from the state of Virginia. Miyares' bootlicking is allow outright theft from Virginians.
