We’re a company town. Even the cultural options are government-adjacent. The roadway systems, metro maps, and security zones in place functionally cut off the poorest areas, and those areas a food- and basic-services deserts. Without statehood/funding not dependent on the whims of Congress, there are limited options to do better. This is not a world-class city of interest. DC is actually lovely in NW, but you’ve all swallowed the narrative that it’s a hellhole and out of control because of an incompetent administration.

That being said, I would eliminate charter schools. Because we created a system where the wealthy and already educated can game the system for access to schools that do not have to handle all the kids and can kick kids out/not provide necessary services, the schools that are left are hamstrung by having to handle all the most troubled/poorests/least-resourced kids without the commensurate resources to do so.

1) do something about rampant violent crime

2) stop lying to us with fake crime statistics to cover up rampant violent crime, and

3) I know DC’s dysfunctional local government will do NOTHING about rampant violent crime decade after decade, so thank you, President Trump, for caring about the quality of life for the 99% of D.C. residents who are not violent repeat offenders.

What's wrong with food trucks at the National Mall? Do they attract pests because tourists/patrons don't clean up after themselves? Is it another issue? We don't really use the food trucks other than an occasional ice cream treat, but I am not bothered by them.

Food trucks are illegal at the mall. The ones that sell undrinkable bubble tea and chemical ice cream for $15 without posting their prices because tourists don't think to ask before handing over their credit card make a few sales and then jet to a new location on the mall before police come. We saw one driver get patted down and taken away in handcuffs once. There should be a system for licensing proper vendors who have to display their prices.
