The first thing NY Times did was point out that DC was far from the highest crime city in America and that crime in DC was at a historic low. But that was its print content, not sure what people asked in front of the Emperor in Chief.

It's not. That's what you are missing.
It is!! I’ve lived downtown for 30 years and we lost all enforcement and reporting after defund the police and all the buildings in the area have had to self police. Not admitting the problem is how we ended up with this tyrant.
Agreed. I get very frustrated when people claim DC is "very safe" or argue that crime is way down and we fixed the problem. We didn't. That doesn't mean I think Trump seizing control of MPD is the solution, it's obviously not. But refusing to acknowledge that DC has not done a good job addressing crime issues since Covid is not going to somehow liberate us from Trump's grasp.
Also watching the fiasco with Trayon White and the ineffective dithering of the council over the last few years makes it harder for me to explain to people outside DC why the city deserves self-rule and, ideally, some freaking Congressional representation. I shouldn't have to argue for those things, but I am tired of the city leadership providing ammunition to the people who want to deprive us of democratic governance.

You’re trying so hard sweetie. Bless your heart.
Ok. I can try harder. Also rapes adults and lost in court over it. Rapist crook.

I posted it twice on the politics forum, and it was removed.
This is going to spread, and the POS has said so explicitly. It's coming to cities all over the US. DC is just a test case.
We're already an authoritarian state. We're soon to be a police state. There is no stopping this movement by the right. There's no resistance. The courts are feeble. The American public has to stand up and fight this, and no one wants to disturb their comfy lives.
We're all frogs in the boiling water.

Anonymous wrote:Why are so many unhappy there will be less crime and homelessness? It makes no sense unless you make a living of catering to these populations, eg, violence interrupter, non-profit advocacy group for homeless.

Did you think that the many of us who voted for him were kidding?
Because he's targeting only the blue cities with majority black and/or Hispanic people. Not the Republican run cities with even worse crime rates. That's pretty bad even by Trump standards.
None of the cities that you mention are Republican led, even if they are in red states.
Okay so how about tulsa? Or jacksonville? Or fresno? All have higher crime rates per capita then the city's Trump is targeting and are led by Republicans
