one of my favorite stories from the area was when my mom was a girl. They had just moved to a bigger house in the area and my grandmother did not feel like making dinner so my grandfather suggested the "new hamburger joint" down the street.

...and when the thought of going out to Dulles Airport was a major road trip!

And hm. I still call it Shirley Highway! I also still call National Airport National Airport...without "Reagan" in front of it!

Yes - i went to Western Jr High (now Westland) and it was 7, 8 and 9. And then it split between BCC and Whitman - before the feeder school system.
