The rec soccer fields are straight garbage. Some may argue yeah yeah that's the way it is and the deserve it because they don't haul in the big $ like travel etc, but they are shit no denying that.

The size of the "rec" program is how fairfax prirotizes turf field requests. Then orgs take those fields meant for rec kids and use some of them for travel. But orgs without rec programs are last in line for field space and often have to rent space.

No matter what happens with the leadership and the organization there will still always be the issue with facilities and the county. Even STJ, a private for profit company with likely more money than SYC, can't even figure out how to expand out of their flagship location with a single turf indoor field in FFX county.

Without travel soccer there is not enough funds to support an overpaid administrative staff of its size. So therefore the administrative staff would implode. Yes recreational commissioners would still do their job day in and day out like they typically do. Recreational sports are a completely different landscape than a travel sport. And if you look at the historical data from other clubs across the area, these travel sports are typically run by compensated individuals.
Travel soccer should have its own budget like every other club in the area and it pays for itself. Who cares what those people make as long as it comes from their budget. What people should care about is what the administrative staff is getting paid and whether they are value added individuals to the organization.
The notion that recreational sports carries travel sports in any club is off base. It is not that way in any other sports organization in our area unless they have a sizable travel lacrosse program. That is the only other outdoor travel sport that has a similar fee structure to soccer. Best of luck!

Are you kidding me?!!?? SYC has been around for over 60 years and it didn’t survive this long because of Travel Soccer! The other sports have always carried the Travel program. Let’s set the record straight. Thousands of families don't play Travel Soccer. All those sports commissioners organized their own schedules, schedule out their fields and or gyms, for rec soccer alone there are close to 200 teams. They create, deconflict their own schedules. They put together uniform orders and equipment set pick ups, out of their homes and guess the heck what, those programs are ALL run by VOLUNTEERS. That’s right! Volunteers!!! Without them, nothing moves. The admin staff salaries are covered because of those sports that carry little to NO overhead. They have jobs because of the collective strength of every sport, not just Travel Soccer. The only reason Travel Soccer has full-time, VERY WELL paid positions like the Travel Soccer Technical Director, Boys DOC, Girls DOC (whose husband sits on the BOD), and even an administrator working from Chicago.... is because the rest of the club has volunteer managed sports. So no, Travel Soccer doesn’t hold the keys to SYC’s survival, it’s the entire club community and the volunteers who have been carrying the load for decades. The imagination that SYC would implode without Travel Soccer doesn't have an historical leg to stand on. SMH

That parking lot survey was because an issue with location and a church. It resulted in another move for SYC because they could not build the empire they wanted.

For SYC, each sport has commissioners who run it. I’m assuming the board isn’t sitting there every afternoon telling them how to throw a football or how to move cones around.
So if you’re mad about how something’s being run maybe talk to your commissioner first. unless you are the commissioner and just don’t know what you’re doing…. So now you’re blaming everyone else….
Until your post I always wondered what a volunteer board member did as well. Then I came across the profile of one of the board members up for reelection. No more imagining things, the list of accomplishments speak for themselves.
What the heck is the club secretary doing parking studies for? The dude probably went outside a few times, looked at the parking lot, and came to the bright conclusion that there was or wasn’t enough parking space.
Sounds like someone needs to grab the mic at the AGM and explain all the hard work and effort that went into this extensive study. Do this and you got my vote.
Sounds like that guy drew the short end of the stick if he had to be the one to do that. Typically you aren't in a location that needs a parking study done unless someone screwed something up when moving into a location.

That's not true because my kid played football and we practiced on turf sometimes. They should increase their fees and then they would have a piece of their own money. They should not be getting another sports money. I was never under the impression the board did much to impact recreational sports because it was always controlled by the commissioner. Like every other sports club around field space is so tight that everyone can't get what they need.
